Also good is David Corn's takedown of the speech, which includes this on the specific matter of Iraq as the nexus of the so-called war on terror:

That's shorthand for a post that either quotes the offensive material (so therefore repeats it) or refers to it in a way that the elimination of the original post makes the referring post opaque and meaningless.

Is it possible to leave up the messages and just replace the offensive remarks with asteriks?

The Pithmaster reserves the right to do that (e.g., a small transgression in an otherwise expansive, Pulitzer Prize-winning comment), but as a general matter the Pithmaster isn't occupying the role of a copy editor of people's comments.
