I watched "Desperate Housewives" a few times when it first started but I never found anything unbelievably catchy or entertaining about it.

I much preferred watching the newest episodes of "Deadwood" on HBO when they came on in that timeslot.

Now that's a hell of a show.

I love a show where the bad guys routinely get rid of their victims bodies by feeding them to the hogs.

Other than the fact that Nicolette Sheridan's face looks like it will fall off at any moment, Desperate Housewives is an unbelievably catchy and entertaining show. I suppose that if you make your living mining the television landscape for themes about modern life, DH might fall short as a work of great art, who else cares about that?

The only thing that ever bothered me about the narrator was that she was one whose mysterious act (the suicide) kicked off everything and she would never tell why she did what she did (until the last episode). Seems to me that it's breaking the rules a bit to have an omniscient narrator who tells us everything about everyone else but not herself.

The Slate piece does bring up a good point about the narrator. What he is overlooking is that in a multi-episode story arc, sometimes you need the narrator to bring everyone up to speed.
