Trivia Time must be doing something right - they run loads of gigs so they must be popular.
Those who are sick of their style should start their own night - its not that difficult and yes Tom - trivia is definitely a viable startup business. I made a living doing it for 12 years in Glasgow, Scotland and personally, its great for me to see pub trivia spreading out from the UK and all across the world to relatively backwards countries like Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA.

You can certainly scale difficulty to your venue/audience, but you have to make sure you have a few questions of the right level of difficulty to create a difference in the scores.
Google is not a quiz writer's friend, by the way, and Trivia Time feels a lot like it was researched using Google.
You've got to get someone with personality to MC the thing, but I think you're on the right track with Sunday afternoons. The Belcourt might be too big, though, to get the right intimate feeling that a good bar brings.

You people are giving me ideas. Sustainable bar trivia might be the one business start-up concept that could work in this economy.
The trick would be to make it distinctive -- throw in some local history and personalities, for instance -- but not so hard that folks would give up.

I agree with DG - Trivia Time is pretty banal. The Tuesday night trivia at Flying Saucer is far superior, but suffers because it's at the Flying Saucer (I refuse to pay to park).
Trivia Time works well for the pubs because the first 90 minutes of questions are so easy, they keep everyone in it and buying drinks.
Still, we long for something more.

      One big wish for Nashville:
That some erudite raconteur* would decide to take it upon himself or herself to MC a proper pub quiz, with questions that reflect strong general knowledge and NOT a bunch of total trivia harvested from Google.
You got it right when you called "Trivia Time" ubiquitous. What they do is not what I'd call a pub quiz.
