Here's where you have to draw a line between the self-employed and the employee: the breakfast meeting.
When you are self-employed, every social event is a potential business meeting, and since you were going to lay around somewhere and drink coffee and go over your lists of things to do, why not do it with someone else and maybe get a gig out of it at the same time? But when you work your proverbial 40 hours for someone else, your personal time is your own and very precious, both in terms of not being paid and not being scheduled.
Ergo, business meetings on personal time are typically in the end, not business at all and, in my experience, rarely if ever efficient, effective, or value-added in any way.

"It happens when we are our freshest, most bright-eyed selves."
Oh, you morning people, what with the brains that function properly prior 11am and a strange tendency to think that talking and breakfast go hand in hand.
I promise I'll do my best to avoid you as I stumble in and out of the coffeeshop but for all that is holy do NOT engage me in conversation or expect me to meet with you at an ungodly hour. And by that, I mean anything before 9 or 9:30 (or 10...or noon).
Sincerely,
A Night Owl
