Re: “What in the Hell is Memphis So Happy About?

Memphis is happy because it's finally gotten over a decades old inferiority complex. There is a lot of positive momentum going on there, for the first time since the mid-1960s. The people there can feel it and it's exciting. What's not to like? They have an awesome, walkable downtown and numerous revitalized entertainment districts that are thriving on local establishments and local musicians.

Memphis, quite stupidly, kicked their corporate record companies out to Atlanta and Nashville in the 70s; but that bad business move did preserve the soul of the rundown river town.
