Re: “Cat Power: The Cream Interview

I discovered her a few years ago at a used CD store in Nashville. The guy working there had put "You Are Free" on the store system and in moments I was hooked. I tried to get him to sell it to me but no dice, so I wound up listening to most of it while I was there. I've been front row for Metallica and Handel's Messiah and enjoy everything from Trivium to Tchaikovsky. As a singer, she stands out for me. There are lots of songs in her catalog with interesting chord changes, and the way her voice massages a melody is like no other in my opinion. While some might have had a problem with her that night, I saw her vulnerability and insecurity as ingredients to one of the most intimate and beautiful experiences I could have opened myself up to. At one moment she would quietly offer to pay anyone back who wanted a refund, and then that powerful voice would fill the room making me think I didn't pay enough to hear it. To each their own.

Re: “Cat Power: The Cream Interview

My take on this show was completely different. As audiences, we are used to seeing perfectly played, carefully planned, live music packages. Anything raw, spontaneous, or honest, is something we don't know how experience. I couldn't have been happier seeing the Cat Power Solo show and feel especially happy to have seen the first show of the tour in Nashville. She invited us into this intimate moment that you'd imagine is only reserved for friends.
