I started off like you, with adherence to absolutely precise measurements. After years at it, though, I have come to embody the style of my Italian ancestors, whose recipes call for a pinch of this and a handful of that. I also live by the maxim to always double any recipe's amount for olive oil and garlic. It's never failed me.
