“There ... now don't you feel better?”
Donna, what is not true of what I said before? Do you not like quoting the nativist organizations called FAIR, Numbers USA and CIS? Do you not, virtually every time you comment on immigration, talk about how immigrants are bringing down the country, spreading infectious diseases, are uneducated, breed uncontrollably, that we mooch off the government, that we should have no right to be here?
I don’t know you personally, so the only way I can form an opinion about you is by what you write. And in the several years of reading what you write, I have found in you no sympathy for the immigrant. I don’t think you have ever written anything acknowledging the many contributions we have offered—and continue to offer—this country. I don’t recall ever having seen you recognize, for example, the importance of immigrants in revitalizing Nolensville Pike and several other areas of Nashville, or leading, opening and bringing large corporations and smaller businesses here, or creating jobs.
It doesn’t matter if you say you have immigrant friends. What have you ever said about your immigrant friends, besides the fact that some of them support your positions? It doesn’t matter if you say you are not anti-immigrant. What you write tells me that you are. I will add that, as an immigrant that has never received entitlements, pays taxes, has always been self-reliant, created a business, and is very involved in the immigrant community, I know that your perceptions are caricatures, albeit very offensive.
You have nothing nice to say about us, you portray us in a negative light, and you base your opinions on the most skewed and partial information. So, when you appear to be bothered because I say you seem to fit the bill of a xenophobe, what reason have you given me to believe that might not be so?
Donna, I will end by saying that I respect you because you don’t just spew stuff; you reason your arguments and you base them on research—even if it is as skewed as I know it is.
Donna, xenophobia is, according to my dictionary at hand, an “intense or irrational dislike of foreigners.” Given the variety of your past posts here and elsewhere about the evil of immigrants and your propensity to cite Numbers USA and other keep-the-brown-people-out groups in support of your arguments, it is easy to conclude you fit the bill. Your dislike for us is certainly intense—and it could be argued that also irrational. Maybe deep down inside you are not, but if it looks like a duck, smells like a duck and quacks like a duck...
