Re: “Paul Kirby, Formerly of Walk the West and Cactus Brothers, Dies at 48”
I was never more alive or had more fun than at a Walk The West concert. I concider myself one of their biggest fans.In the summer of 1988, A friend of mine took me to a show at Mainstreet in the Boro and i was blown away how good these guys were. Paul Kirby could stand and deliver. Will, John and my buddy dave Kennedy could blow the roof off any place they played and did. They played right at the edge of the stage.I danced my ass off. U could pick up and give off so much energy that it would push the band to play even greater We became friends pretty soon. I rarely missed a chance to support my fav local band either at mainstreet, Ace of Clubs or at riverfront park in Nashville. I helped sell t-shirts at Ace of clubs for them. I really wanted them to make it big time. I still have all my ticket stubs and t-shirts which I proudly wear from time to time. Never forget when Paul hurt his hand so bad helping change a tire for someone on the side of the road coming back from K'town that he could hardly play. But, thats the kinda guy Paul Kirby was. I am very sad to hear about Paul and to think I will never get to talk to him again. Life without you will be a such a drag. Your friend in Columbia Tn john Shackelford
