You should persevere your southern history, but why not speak about the black solders who fought on the side of the south during the civil war as well.
They were just as much part of this history as any white person its there history too. Its American history.

The problem has been that they kept black Americans contributions out of the history books for the most part and now those chickens are coming home to roust. let not exclude any part of history. it will cheat us all.
