Re: “Reunited Black Flag To Headline Muddy Roots Festival in Cookeville Aug. 30-Sept. 1”
Dale Nixon (aka greg ginn playing bass) and Greg Moore are the lineup recording the new record. The touring lineup as of now (the lineup playing Hevyfest) is Ginn, Reyes, Dukowski, and Robo i.e. the Lineup that recorded the Jealous Again EP.
I also have found it interesting that as soon as these shows started getting announced, the fucking haters come screaming out of their little holes and shooting it down, when in fact, most of them were either sitting in shitty diapers or still swimming around their daddys' nutsack when Black Flag called it a day. I saw Black Flag three times between 83-85 with Rollins, Ginn, Kira, and Stevenson (Martinez in 85). I saw Gone 4 times. I saw Greg Ginn with his solo band a few times as well. I can tell you that when he rolls up the volume control on his guitar, and that feedback rolls over you as he starts playing 'Jealous Again', that it's Black Flag. it doesn't matter who is on drums, vox, and bass. So you can sit and talk shit all you want. Greg Ginns' guitar is the sound of Black Flag, always has been.
It's also admirable, that Ginn/Reyes are picking and choosing (so far anyway) off the beaten path indy/DIY festivals. I know what kind of money "FLAG" is asking for and getting for punk rock bowling etc. and there's no way that Black Flag is getting that for Muddy Roots. Black Flag and SST were the primary architects of the DIY movement, leading the way for the BYO, Dischord, and so many others, and I admire Ginns choices thus far to not 'cash in', and take slots on smaller festivals.
So hate all you want, sit at the red door and bask in the glory of your own presence. I'm gonna go see Black Flag.
