What we're not hearing are more sensible approaches than the one put forward by Haynes. The issue isn't the need to restructure lease arrangements over 3 to 5 years. The issue is the existing restrictions on liquor stores that aren't going to be going away under the proposals. Forget the toss away crap about letting them sell drink mix. That's fine and should be done, but the issues facing the liquor store owners are vis a vis their relationship with the wholesalers, restrictions on inventory and store size. Kroger, Aldi, Costco and Wal-mart will all be able to act as their own wholesalers and inventory large volumes of wine in central warehousing facilities. Liquor store owners are prohibited from effectively acting as their own wholesalers or to warehouse wines and to have more than one location. As a result, they are facing the same legal restrictions on the sale of their product, while facing the prospect of increased competition from outlets that won't be facing the same restrictions. Free up the market for wine and allow it in grocery stores, but free up the liquor stores too. Then they won't need 3 to 5 years to renegotiate the lease.
Re: “No, Rep. Duncan, You Don't Really Think Violence Against Women is as American as Apple Pie”
So, Betsy has now telegraphed that is she is perfectly prepared to go apeshit crazy on Duncan for being a he-man woman-hater if he votes against the bill for precisely the reasons he alludes to in his comments. Since a lot of the really, really bad pork that everyone complains about gets stuffed into bills with innocuous sounding titles, he's actually going to read the bill to determine if it really will do what it says without being used as a vehicle for more pork barrel spending. But, if he votes against it for being a porker, then BOOM! Betsy gets to trumpet Duncan as just another heartless Republican bastard. How sweet.
