Re: “When it comes to album-making as a serious art form, Neil Young has nothing on Gary Allan”
Gary Allan can sing Neil Young under the table but, he is a better guitar player than most singer-song writers. Neil's music is very much hit or miss - -mostly miss from my perspective. He has had some grand-slams to be sure and he has left a mark on modern music. Overall, I like Neil Young's earlier work a lot, he brought a fresh sound. He has certainly had staying power as mentioned by others. Gary has also created a fresh sound and is continuing to build his career. His material too has some weak areas, but overall I can easily listen to any of Gary's albums where there are albums of Neil's that I'd rather not...
Gary has worked hard at his craft and is getting better as time goes by. While it's hard to compare the two in terms of impact given the difference in their time performing, the different type of music they write and play and the point in time their careers began, Gary's is a great talent and a masterful entertainer, I believe that he compares well to just about anyone - even Mr. Young.
