Re: “Guns, More Guns and Gun Control: Inside This Week's Print Edition”
What's truly sad about the entire debate is that the people trying to wade through the vast sea of gray - from which the complex issue of guns and gun control resides - are being drowned out by the pitch black and stark white that are flanking the sides.
Since the Sandy Hook tragedy, I've seen conspiracy theorists attempt to verify the planting of crisis actors in CO and CT, comparisons of government officials to Adolph Hitler (Because that's one we've NEVER heard before) and video games fingered as the sole catalyst behind over-the-top acts of violence.
Kids aren't spanked anymore, homosexuals are allowed to get married...the explanations flying around are as simplistic as they are ridiculous. Determining what has caused us to evolve into a society of violence, and what we can do to quell the trend, has been a hot topic for philosophers, politicians, theologists, anthropologists and the like for years upon years.
And as much as it sucks, it is not a problem that will be fixed quickly. Our salvation will not arrive in the form of a magic bullet - pun intended.
