Re: “Jimmy Haslam's Little Rebate Problem

So cost+X is fraud if X or cost varies? Every automobile dealership in the country should be running scared if that is the case.

Re: “Planning for a Military Victory Against Georgia

Texas and its cities did what Atlanta and Georgia have signally failed to do: they bought land and built water supply reservoirs. Look at a map of Texas and all the lakes in the state. How many of those are natural? One. All the rest are man-made water supply reservoirs.

Re: “Should Legislature Choose U.S. Senate Nominees?

It could be argued that the 17th Amendment, ostensibly designed to bring the senators closer to the people by removing the oversight of the states, has actually removed the senators even further from the people and to being actually accountable to the citizenry in their respective states. I don't think the argument that switching to direct election of senators has somehow alleviated the issue of political corruption in the Senate. If anything, it's probably gotten worse without direct state oversight.

As to the legislature nominating the candidates that would not violate the terms of the 17th Amendment which merely states that they shall be elected by direct vote. It is silent on the issue of nominations. In fact under Article 1, the times, places, and manner of holding elections for Senators and Representatives is prescribed in each state by the state legislature. While Congress can alter those terms, they can't do so for Senators, leaving the manner of their election up to the states. Further, the states already interfere in Senatorial elections by imposing ballot access restrictions on smaller third party candidates. This simply ups that ante, right or wrong, but probably entirely in a legal manner.

Re: “Death of a Pipe Dream? Ashley Judd Reportedly 'Exploring' Senate Run ... in Kentucky

Wait. Isn't there a Kennedy somewhere who needs a job? Or the Clinton's girl? Being a B-grade celebrity has-been could work (calling Mr. Franken, calling Mr. Franken), but really? Is the Dem Party so far up Hollywood's monied ass that it would actually be encouraging the birth of new personality/celebrity cults centered on retread second careers for the washed-up?

Re: “Tennessee's Super-Duper GOP Majority Failing First Test of Leadership

They do realize they can oppose the federal law and still set up the exchanges right? They're not necessarily mutually exclusive.

Re: “Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures: Tennesseans Petition White House for Right to Secede

What exactly is the problem with secession/divorce? If there are irreconcilable differences, why do you want to stay together? For the kids? People around here are holding a 200 year old artificial political construct as being more sacred, holy and binding than the union of two people.
