Re: “Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures: Tennesseans Petition White House for Right to Secede

You know there doesn't seem to be a recognition that others in the state might not want to secede. Aside from the hyper-partisan nature of current American politics, citizens of these various states still have an attachment to the United States. You show me a house festooned with American flags and I'll introduce you to the Republican that lives there. Liberals tend to be less showy with our patriotism. And since almost every red state receives more in benefits from the federal government than it pays in taxes, good luck getting state lawmakers to go along with it, no matter how much they dislike the current administration. Good bye public education, highway funds, social security, medicare, access to FBI labs, public universities, education grants. TVA is federal, so good luck buying power from them. They certainly aren't going to hand over Oak Ridge. Broadcast frequencies are controlled by the FCC, so you'll never manage to keep a local station on the air that isn't blasted into background static by Radio Free America. And that's just two or three minutes of thinking about possible consequences. Secessionists. Forget whether or not it's treasonous. Just stop being so stupid.
