Elissa Kim is extremely bright, motivated, eloquent and oh so sexy (without even trying). I wouldn't expect her to be anyone's rubber stamp. The issue that may be her downfall is that she came from immigrant parents who started with not very much and worked hard, went to school, sacrificed, and made a good future for themselves. She may be imbued with the belief that hard work and dedication can make up for a lot of school deficiencies. Her other political downfall is that it doesn't appear that she is beholden to anyone. I wonder if she's interested in running for Mayor?
Just curious if the government in Japan prints documents in English or if they are racist too?
When Steve Cohen, a Jew, who represented a black-majority district tried to join the Black Caucus and was rejected because of his skin color, the Black Caucus lost any credibility that they had. You cannot say that the caucus is working for the betterment of a group of people and then exclude a representative whose constituents could benefit greatly from representation on that caucus, simply because he's a few shades too light. Not to mention, he's uber-liberal and is one heck of a politician, despite being wrong-minded about many things. He would be an asset to any political body but sorry, you're not a brother, so the Black Caucus is actually about promoting the careers of black politicians, in which case, it's hard to disagree with Senator Summerville.
