Re: “'I Would Have Shot Him': Some Thoughts on the Aurora Tragedy

Sorry AnglRdr, didn't check the sub-links... you can look up "the other Aurora shooting" for another example - it was intended to be a mass murder, the guy killed one person and was taken down by a CCW permit holder in what seems somewhat closer circumstances, although it was daytime.

Unfortunately I can't find anything I read a while back as the first 40 pages are all about the Dark Knight mass murder.

Oh yeah, anyone thinking they would have 100% stopped him has probably never been tear gassed, shot at, or realizes that movie theater seats are not bulletproof. However, the people who think that the police are going to run in and shoot someone for holding a gun are probably a bit optimistic on the timeframe of an armed police response.

I don't think there was much that could be said for certain armed vs unarmed. Even armed, CCW people should have been trained to get the hell out and protect their own rumps first. That's what CCW training is - get to safety if possible, neutralize the threat if not.

It was a tragedy that people are going to spend the next 2 months twisting to their political views for gain.

@AnglRdr sorry, did not read the "similar circumstances" - here's one: http://dustinsgunblog.blogspot.com/2008/05…

Darkened bar, 3 dead two wounded, CCW stopped the shooter from killing more.

Re: “'I Would Have Shot Him': Some Thoughts on the Aurora Tragedy

@kilted - the only thing a "no guns in bars" sign does is tell the patrons they're not allowed to bring a gun into the establishment. Doesn't mean the owner can't have a shotgun. Also, do you think anyone with a handgun wants to wander into a bar and attempt to hold it up with a bunch of drunks who will fight?

Or would you rather pick off someone individually leaving a bar who's been drinking, because you can assume they're unarmed.

@AnglRdr http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1701272… that supposedly has about 40, http://gunssavelives.net/ has 543 stories, there's another site I read once that had a lot more than that but can't find it, have a friend also who stopped a machette weilding maniac with a gun - but didn't fire it. I'll find that other site, they got in major trouble with anti-gun activists for dehumanizing the people, but it had over a thousand entries last I checked.

Once again, not arguing for it. Just some info.

When clothes are outlawed, only outlaws will have clothes.

Just because they have body armor on doesn't mean hitting them in the chest isn't going to stop them. You don't have to kill a person with a chest shot to knock them down / knock them senseless.

That said, I don't particularly have a desire to see guns everywhere, but anywhere you prohibit them paints a target for madmen who want to do mass murders such as this.

Columbine, Dark Knight, Virginia Tech were all places you could go and be assured of no legal firearms in possession of the masses.

Eh, not arguing for it, just pointing out a couple of things... it's morning, there's coffee to be had...
