Thank you so much for this. Perry was the love of my life for 12 years, and tonight, I finally had the courage to type his name into a search engine again to see what I hadn't already read. This one tops the list. Brilliant, masterful and insightful. More than that, it was true to his spirit, and that means a lot to me. God bless you.
I wrote a blog about the benefit show. Please give it a read if you can. Thank you.
Just want to send a shout out to everyone who came out to support the Perry Baggs Benefit Saturday night. It was a tremendous success. I have enough money to bury Perry with honor and dignity and in a way that he wanted.
God did all this. He put it in the hearts of people to give. I just did the footwork.
And I had lots of help.
A big thank you to the band members of Jason & The Scorchers, espe.
cially Warner E. Hodges and Jason Ringenberg, Simmonz (Pauly, Jamie and Mike Simmons), Dan Baird, Stacy Collins, Peter Cooper and Eric Brace, Robert Leath and The Stoney Creek Boys.
Special appreciation also goes out to Deb Hodges, Jamie Williams, Johnny Bozeman, Josh and the staff at The Exit In, and journalists Peter Cooper, Tim Ghianni, Edd Hurt and 105.9-The Rock personality Joe Elvis.
And a personal thank you to my parents, Dan
and Kathy Cornwell, Robert Leath and Pauly Simmons.
I also want to show love here for Faith Elizabeth Baggs, Perry's daughter, and her mom, Patricia Chavira.
Patricia, you have done an amazing job raising Faith. She is a very bright, funny, down-to-earth, cool young lady.
I have really enjoyed getting to know you, and will help you anyway I can in the future. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your lives.
Last but certainly not least, I want to thank Larry Napier.
In 1978, Larry wrote a little song called "White Lies." Perry Armand Baggs III later collaborated with him and re-wrote the melody. Perry set the song on fire.
Jason and The Scorchers recorded it in 1981. That song was a single on the Lost & Found album and a video on MTV. It opened up a whole new world for the band who critics now call the country punk pioneers.
Thank you Larry for helping the whole world hear an awesome band called Jason and The Scorchers.
And on a personal note, Larry has been there for me every day and night for five weeks since Perry died.
Sometimes, he talks to me until I go to sleep, just like Perry used to do.
We bonded because of our love for Perry. Now, we're lifelong friends.
I love you Larry. I am always here for you.
I have purchased my tickets for the Perry Baggs benefit at the Exit 7 p.m. Aug. 18.
Do you have yours?
I wouldn't wait and get them at the door. Go ahead and reserve your spot. That's what I did.
Hope to see you there. It's going to be EPIC!
Come by and say hello.
And God bless you for helping me to bury him with honor and dignity, and in a way that he wanted.
It's official. I am keeping the drums.
(Written on Tuesday)...
I finally got some sleep for the first time since July 12.
I feel a lot better today, better to be able to tackle all the things that I have to do. I have to get the word out to bring the people through the door to generate the money necessary to bury Perry with honor and dignity, and in a way that he wanted.
I was able to pay $3,600 for the burial plot and the opening and closing costs.
But we have a way to go.
I will not give up until we lay him to rest.
I promise you that journalists all over the world will know about everything being planned to celebrate the life and music of Perry Armand Baggs III.
