Re: “Nashville's Old House Restaurants

Daniela - I just remembered your Father's name... Romano D'Allegrante, right? Or maybe that's just close, or misspelled. He, at that time, was such a smooth, suave character! Like he was playing a Cassanova-type role in a James Bond movie. And his accent just killed. So debonair!

Re: “Nashville's Old House Restaurants

To Daniela: My name is Robert and I worked with your Father at Villa Romano's in the early 80's. He was a real character! One of his favorites was taking the Italian bread and topping it with butter and anchovies. When we would scoff at him for eating such a combination, he would tell us that "We don't know what real good food is!" Lol! The kitchen was in the basement and I remember running the food trays up the servant's stairs to the second floor to be served by my "partner" (all of the waiters worked in teams, a "front" man who worked the table, and a "back" man who ran the food and wines and served and collected the check). I LOVED it there.
If you remember him, my partner was Clyde, the tall black man who fronted while I ran the food. I could tell all kinds of stories about the celebrities who ate there, like Crystal Gayle and Eddie Rabbit. I also remember working there on New Years Eve one year, and although we were only open from 6-10pm, I made $600. in tips (which was only half of what my team made because we split everything between the two of us, like everyone there). The food was fantastic! I loved the big espresso/cappucino machine and loved foaming up the cappuchino's, which took some skill. I don't remember the chef's name, but he was a younger man, and had an attitude, but he was funny. After all these years, I still tell stories about working there. It was one of the best times of my life.
