I think you're overestimating the reach of that tribute album (and I say this owning the thing). Cale might have crafted the arrangement that most people know and subsequently cover, but if you asked ten random people on the street, I bet eight of them would say its a Jeff Buckley song. I remember seeing one of the DC Talk guys cover it at Summer Lights and introducing it as a Buckley song, and wanting to throw something at him because he should have known better.
I would have paid any amount of money to have seen this assignment go to Gold.
I saw their "Vegas Job" show in '99 and it was incredible (and tix were only ten bucks!) I'm glad I didnt tarnish that memory by seeing this show.
