Living in the real world: are you reading the same article? Howe is Christian. She wanted to work at Belmont. Christian beliefs are not clear cut. Some people believe that being gay is not a conflict with their christian beliefs. I get that you are not among them, and that some christians in particular have an inability to read an article reporting anything other than gays being executed without being forced to claim it's 'pro homosexual' but surely even the most basic reading comprehension of the various articles you've responded to has allowed you to glean that much information from them?
Also, ways to tell a commenter is older than 35? They use homosexual instead of gay or lesbian or anything else.

Re: “After forcing out Lisa Howe, can Belmont be both a progressive university and a fundamentalist scold?”

Prop 8 was mostly funded by Mormons...
Don't be a dumbass. There's a huge amount of interpretation at work in any religion, certainly christianity. Religious scholars don't all agree on what the bible says, much less which aspects are important, so unless you also don't eat cheeseburgers and you are totally ok with slavery, I can't imagine you take it all as seriously.
