You are out of luck if you go and see me. I'm not a doctor. I have chosen to comment on this story because I find it so hypocritical that those who want to persecute physicians for making a living are the same persons who rush to see them when those persons get sick. Furthermore, the persons who decry pharma are the same persons who own stock in publically traded companies and who expect to make a return on their investments. Pharma is big business because the world needs medication and because most of the companies producing the medications are sold on the stock exchange.
To Let Food Be Thy Weapon - You still need Pharma and the medications that they provide. You want to have your argument and eat it too. The fact is, good health is a combination of preventative behaviors (eating right, exercising, etc.) and effective medications when our immune systems are overwhelmed. This is a capitalist society that we live in, and Pharma has the right to make as much money as it can. You have a choice to boycott it by not using their products. You can choose to let food be thy weapon, but as we both know, you take medications without hesitation when you get sick. Your argument is simply hypocritical.
To those of you arguing against "chemical pushers", I suggest that you do a lot of yoga, pray a lot, never have an accident, and eat well. I am willing to guarantee that you will see a physician and take medications from these "chemical pushers" in the near future. I challenge you to have a living will drafted that states that in case of serious illness or accident, call your holistic therapist, your exercise instructor, or your grocery manager to help you. I bet you go to a medical doctor. Wanna bet?
Belmont University has made so many gains in the past decade. It is a horrible shame that the university's underpinnings remain tied to the Belmont of the past. All of the remaining gay faculty should be frightened. As for the numerous gay students, you have nothing to fear. The university still wants your money today and after you graduate. Shame on that pathetic university. There is a really extraordinary university just down the street - Vanderbilt University. All students who are appalled by Belmont's firing of this gay coach should consider taking their dollars and allegiances to Vanderbilt, a true institution of higher learning.
Sam Cynic places several academic degree letters after his name, but his comments sound quite plebeian. Perhaps he would be best listened to if he spoke with purpose and not hostility.
I appreciate your comment concerning holistic medicine. However, I generally go to my medical doctor for pharmacological interventions.
I want doctors who are treating me to have the most up to date information before prescribing medications for me. I would much rather my doctors receive information from another physician than from a drug rep. I certainly am not naive enough to think that the doctor providing the information is doing so for free. None of us go to work each day without the expectation of being paid for our services. These doctors have an absolute right to use their knowledge and skill to provide training to other physicians, and they have a right to be paid for it. If you want socialized medicine, move to Canada.
