Times change and not always for the better. In the 1950s I worked in December at my grandmother's downtown bookstore (Stokes & Stockell). I remember her dismay when paperback editions of best sellers became available in drugstores. Back then there were two other downtown bookstores, Mills and Zibarts. As time went by they all moved to suburban locations and eventually closed. The demise of Davis-Kidd appears to be just the latest chapter of the changing retail face of Nashville.
