DJ, blogger, twitter-er, "house mother" of the Nashville rock scene, or so says the Scene.
I love that I'm officially old-timer enough to have seen everyone on your wish list but Lifeboy.
My sis and I have been going to Soup Sunday for years - its our favorite local food event! Some additional pro tips:
- carry a spoon when you're collecting samples - you wait in line for ages to fill your tray, and some of the soups can be cold by the time you sit down. Might as well eat while you wait.
- don't fill up on bread!
- respect the line and DON'T CUT
- the tip above is the #1 one - if you don't like it - DON'T FINISH IT. You'd be surprised how full you get super quickly.
Thanks for the birthday love! Sadly Secret Sects won't be able to play (which is a bummer because they were going to dress up like the Royal Tenenbaums), but this is the order for tonight:
Happy Little Trees
Hands off Cuba
Also, my sister baked (at least) 81 cupcakes. Get there early.
Thanks for the link, gents!
And @Pseudonym - I will definitely be posting a tracklist for future podcasts - just did this one in a hurry so I didn't have time this morning!
Thank you thank you to Marc from New Wave Smackdown, whose Friday Morning Drive was my first favorite radio show on WRVU, and who told me the station accepted community DJs.
Thank you to the many, many trainees that were stuck hanging out with me every week, and who taught me as much as I taught them (particularly Laura from Needles + Pins, who went on to DJ one of my LAST favorite radio shows on WRVU).
Thank you to everyone who called, not to make a request, but to tell me I was doing a rad job.
Thank you to everyone who put up with me playing the wrong song or accidentally ejecting the CD while it was playing.
Thank you to everyone who came in to guest DJ and share their favorite tunes with me and all the listeners for the past few years since I started the Summer of Guest DJs.
Thank you to my favorite fan who I met last year at Bonnaroo and who recognized my voice, who told me my show helped him get through a really tough time in his life behind bars (for real. he's a good guy).
Thank you to Needles + Pins, Nashville Jumps, Penguin Parade, The Mixdown, Antennas to Heaven, Karaoke Blackout, Sounds of the Bayou, Liberadio, D-Funk, Assorted Fruits & Cheeses, the Curse of the Drinking Class, Hipbilly Jamboree, We Own This Town, Nashville Mixtapes, Holly House, The Inconsiderate Mixtape, The Best of Bread, Pocket Ninjas, The Stretch, Dinosaurs in the Dojo, Connect the Dots, Alphabet, Get Up Stand Up, and all the other amazing shows I'm forgetting for soundtracking practically every day of my life since I moved to Nashville eight years ago.
Thanks for helping me find my voice in Nashville for the past six years.
A quick rundown of what's up with the static:
Moisture got into the transmission line, which caused the transmitter to shut itself down when it was detected. Yesterday, it was discovered that 3 circuit boards were damaged by the water and will need to be replaced - those parts were ordered from the transmitter manufacturer and they're being shipped overnight tonight. That should put us back on the air tomorrow.
The Vandy scheduled power outage will take us back off the air Saturday night/Sunday morning (transmitter, online streams, everything), but everything should be back on Tuesday by 10 a.m. or so. Which is, ahem, just in time for Out the Other next Tuesday from 10-noon. :)
The summer schedule was announced internally today as well - it should be up on http://wrvu.org shortly.
Hooray hooray hooray!
