Having a "Cool" mom was exhausting. Not only did I have to set my own boundaries, but I had to compete for my friends attention. When you're 16 you want your friends to be clamoring to get away from your mom, not begging to stay a little longer.
I think you're a very cool mom and I've always thought your step-daughters have been incredibly lucky to have a Stepmom who regards her role as that of a true parent.
