Re: “Slouching Toward Opryland: Online Group Wants Opry Mills a Theme Park Again”
"Save your supportive fervor for after the economic recovery."
And without new investments in Nashville or anywhere else how do you expect to generate interest in tourism which brings in a reliable stream of revenue to the city? Going shopping a lot might be what CNN tells you is being part of the economic recovery but that's a self-serving way to participate. Adding jobs through building is much better for the economy long term than patronizing the stores that are already open only. There's no such thing as "after the economic recovery" anymore. It's going to be slow and on-going for some time. The democrats hope there's another bubble created in the market to drive growth and company profits as they did in the 90's. We became dependent on consolidated economic interest in one area of the economy to help drive growth across all market segments. So, if there's no one trying to generate interest in anything that's not related to direct retail channels then all we get to have in the US are tons of stores and very few recreational outlets available to tourists who might want to do more than wander around another cheesy mall.
