Housed in the renovated former baggage building of Union Station, this Texas import has plenty to choose from, proudly boasting about 75 beers on tap and an additional 130 bottled selections from around the world. An enclosed large porch offers a comfy ambiance, and the huge main dining room is reminiscent of a Texas hill country beer hall, with vaguely Germanic leanings on the menu: sausage and cheese platters, thick beer cheese soup and a selection of brats.
Nashville’s historic Cannery Row, off Eighth Avenue South in an old converted warehouse, lie the Mercy Lounge and the Cannery Ballroom, two of Nashville’s premier music venues. The second-story Mercy Lounge offers standing room for 500 people and features pool tables, a large bar and pinball machines. Downstairs sits the renovated Cannery Ballroom, a massive venue with standing room for 1,000. Since the ’80s, The Lounge/Ballroom has welcomed some of the nation’s top touring acts, including Jane’s Addiction, Gregg Allman and Iggy Pop.
A 24-hour coffeehouse and café with an outdoor patio, Café Coco is like a childhood teddy bear, a bit worn for the wear, but it’s still a favorite haunt of youthful local musicians and their support teams, as well as caffeine-fueled students on an all-night cram. Vegetarian-friendly.
Broadway Brewhouse took over the short-lived Casabona Italian restaurant, which had taken over a furniture showroom in a storefront building on Lower Broad. Owner Kelly Jones has a proven track record with his two other Brewhouses -- one in Midtown and one in Bellevue -- and he has teamed up with a man who knows downtown nightlife, Hardy Ross, a co-owner of the thriving Rippy's at the corner of Fifth and Broad. There are 72 kinds of beer in bottles and on draft behind the 60-foot bar to accompany the roadhouse menu, masterminded by chef Ed Arace.
Three Crow Bar covers one corner of East Nashville’s Five Points, with an exuberant clientele that reflects the diversity of the neighborhood. Catch a game on one of the televisions, join in on the weekly and highly competitive team trivia contests, shoot a game of darts, or just shoot the breeze at the bar.
