Powerman 5000

When: Fri., June 18, 7 p.m. 2010
You might remember Powerman 5000 from their minor hit in 1999 called “When Worlds Collide,” or you might remember them as the band fronted by Spider — Rob Zombie’s younger half-brother. Or you might not remember them at all. Well, rest assured, person who may or may not remember this band — they still exist. Turns out they’ve existed for something like 20 years, or at least that’s how long Spider’s been in the band. The rest of the newbie personnel jumped on board just a couple years ago, so maybe they’ve yet to tire of comparisons to their frontman’s brother’s old band. Where White Zombie employed a B-movie horror-flick aesthetic, PM5K found their biggest successes mining a similar science-fiction one. And while both bands were known for industrial-leaning hard rock, a quick comparison of “More Human Than Human” to “When Worlds Collide” leaves little doubt why people might have forgotten the latter.
