Ya Za might be the most proactive, civic-minded musician in the whole damn city. Not only did she make the We Will Not Ignore: Songs in the Key of Humanity Haiti benefit album happen, but before the rain even stopped coming down on our fair city, she had already begun organizing a benefit for the victims of the Nashville flood. While the details are still being worked out, we're pretty confident that the end result will be just as powerful and invigorating as the music that she makes for herself. Ya Za's slick blend of futuristic pop and throwback dance-funk has been a favorite around HQ ever since she popped up in our “Artists to Watch” issue back in February, and tonight she's appearing alongside fellow Per Capita Records labelmates Emily Flemming, Rachel Pearl and Sharon Lang.
