Suzan-Lori Parks’ 2002 Pulitzer-winning play is practically a modern-day theatrical legend — a darkly comic fable of brotherly love and family identity. Originally produced off-Broadway in 2001 with Don Cheadle and Jeffrey Wright in the lead roles, here the two-person script is enacted by two well-known Nashville performers, actor Jeff Obafemi Carr and former Tennessee Titans great Eddie George. Proceeds from this one-night-only event will benefit Art To Africa 2010, an Amun Ra Theatre initiative to send youth from its Performing ARTs Academy to Ghana, West Africa, in July 2010 to assist in building a performance space and launching an arts program at the House of Champions Orphanage. Following the performance is an event called “A Royal Allure,” featuring a jazz band, silent auction and an evening of dancing. George also plans to display his growing skills and reputation as a deejay, joining with WQQK’s popular radio personality, Kenny Smoov.
