Re: “Does Bill Freeman's Trash Truck Ad Deal Stink?

Did the "personal" ad deal carry an exclusivity clause saying that Gray's couldn't place signs for other mayoral candidates? Did the "personal" contract just happen to last the campaign cycle?

Re: “Does Bill Freeman's Trash Truck Ad Deal Stink?

You're looking at how the next mayor is going to run his administration.

Re: “If There's No Shame in Executing People, Why Keep the Executioners Secret?

"When the state sanctions a killing in the name of the state, which translates to you and me, those of the state deserve to know whom is involved. EVERYBODY!
I'm NOT interested in the name of witnesses and jury members near as much as I (me, you, and Uncle McGoo) deserve to know who is complicit in the state sponsored killing; every member, every one!"

What public policy end is served by naming executioners? Does it highlight inequalities in the legal system the way that naming jurors allows citizens to draw conclusions about the demographics of who sits in judgement?

Why are you not interested in the names of the witnesses? Certainly witnesses are MORE responsible for the defendant ending up on the executioner's table than the executioner. And witnesses may have a reason to want the defendant dead.

Again, unlike AnglRdr's thoughtful legal criticism, your argument seems to be without any basis in public policy other than that you dislike the death penalty.

Re: “Caption Contest: Jack White Ticket Giveaway!

VLADIMIR PUTIN BARES ALL:
While traversing horseback through the Siberian tundra, the oft-shirtless Russian president shocked locals in an unprecedented and unshaven revealing of his rubles this week. While many are describing his behavior as squirrelly, Putin contends that he is proud of his bushy coat and simply nuts about his nation.

Re: “Your Opinion Is Wrong: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees Shockingly Unshocking

I can't take the Hall of Fame seriously until the Monkees are inducted. Something's wrong with an institution that inducts a group as contrived as KISS but snubs the Monkees.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

With our attention span rapidly decreasing, it is best to keep any article short and to the point, not rambling on and on about issues that may, at best, only concern a handful of people. Stick to the K.I.S.S. rule at all times ! (Keep It Simple Stupid) :-)

Re: “If There's No Shame in Executing People, Why Keep the Executioners Secret?

Perhaps.........but it could be your brand of prejudicial logic leaves much to be desired. Fact is it is NOT difficult to determine the names of witnesses and jurists on any case. But that is not the premise here, now is it.
When the state sanctions a killing in the name of the state, which translates to you and me, those of the state deserve to know whom is involved. EVERYBODY!
I'm NOT interested in the name of witnesses and jury members near as much as I (me, you, and Uncle McGoo) deserve to know who is complicit in the state sponsored killing; every member, every one! Do deny the public this knowledge, when it is being accomplished in the name of the public. Is it unreasonable to the supposed sanctity of the act?
If the state is righteous and ethical in their judgement, why hide ANY involvement in the act? Safety is a rather dubious reason, since I imagine involvement is well compensated and voluntary.

Re: “December Docs: Burroughs — The Movie Tonight at The Belcourt

As I wrote on another thread:

If Belcourt can't get THE INTERVIEW, maybe they can show Chaplin's THE GREAT DICTATOR and other movies lampooning tyrants: NINOTCHKA, TO BE OR NOT TO BE (1942 version, please) and the Three Stooges shorts "You Nazty Spy" and "I'll Never Heil Again."

It would remind people there was a time when Hollywood wasn't afraid to portray dictators (and their followers) as bumbling buffoons.

Fritz Lang's MAN HUNT (1941), about a man fleeing Germany after failing to assassinate Hitler, would be another good choice for a Belcourt showing.

We're going to be a brewpub, MMB, and our total floor space is going to be closer to 8000 sq. ft. But I'll be sure to make the beer extra mediocre just for you.
