Re: “The Daily Links: Brexit Edition

Good news, fellow conservatives! TARP laws got the fuck shot down today by SCOTUS! A victory for individual freedom and bodily autonomy! Let's get Merrick confirmed NOW before Killary gets a chance to nominate a real liberal!

If we just pretend that slavery never happened we can move on from it already.

Jeez.

Bill, she says that slaves played a big part in the shaping of American whisky, not starting it.

Yes, it will quite obviously lead to better education. The more accurate historical information that is offered, the more is learned by the public. That is better education.

"Why? Is that going lead to a better education or less crime?"

No, but it will force us caucasians to come to grips with our "white privilege". Wait.... no, it won't... LOL!!!

Re: “Jack Daniel's Starts to Look Back on Its History With Slavery

This is all good and nice, but Jack Daniels makes booze. To the extent that JD is exploring its slave-friendly history, they should be doing with an eye towards the bottom line. Jack Daniels doesn't exist so that navel-gazing bloggers can ruminate on American history. Unless, of course, Jack Daniels can make a buck from it.

"In Tennessee now, we desperately need a way to talk about slavery...."

Why? Is that going lead to a better education or less crime?

Re: “Jack Daniel's Starts to Look Back on Its History With Slavery

Maybe you should go to the distillery and actually hear some of the facts surrounding the story. Jack was taught distilling from a preacher and pharmacist who was pushed by his faith and congregation to stop making alcohol. HE taught Jack everything he knew.

Re: “Jack Daniel's Starts to Look Back on Its History With Slavery

Anyone outraged by the use of slavery in early alcohol production should show that they're not hypocrites and become teetotalers immediately.

But we know that won't happen. They are, after all, hypocrites.

Re: “Jack Daniel's Starts to Look Back on Its History With Slavery

I am consistently impressed with Betsy Philips' lack of regard for fact or history or anything that contradicts her little world view. In fact people were distilling long before they hired distillers. Much rum was distilled in the North. The first distillery in fact was on Staten Island. No, slaves really didnt have much to do with that one.
It is taking one factoid and extrapolating to an entire phenomenon that makes hacks like Philips so tiresome.
