Re: “Funk Files $200M Defamation Suit Against News Channel 5, Phil Williams

@Southern Beale: You must have missed this little item from last July:

"Domestic violence charges against Nashville developer David Chase were dismissed Wednesday, largely because of evidence that his ex-girlfriend lied and her accusations were not credible."
http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/crime…

Her lies, plus Funk's pursuit of the case, cost Chase $600,000 in attorney fees.

Re: “Funk Files $200M Defamation Suit Against News Channel 5, Phil Williams

Putting conditions on dismissal of criminal charges is indeed routine. Where the prosecutor has determined that the underlying case is without merit, and where the condition is designed to benefit tortfeasor cops, it is reprehensible.

Indeed, under those circumstances, I am not sure that it is not felonious under Tenn. Code Ann. § 39-14-114.

Remember when Nick Beres and WTVF covered the "homegrown Jihad" of alleged "terrorist training camps" in Stewart County? Cue that terrorists-on-monkey-bars B-roll!

Re: “Funk Files $200M Defamation Suit Against News Channel 5, Phil Williams

Putting conditions on dismissal of criminal charges is routine, it happens all the time. Williams' report should have made that clear. As for the rest of what David Chase is claiming, I can't say. But the piece definitely appeared slanted, like we're supposed to feel so sorry for this poor, beleaguered child of privilege who beat up his girlfriend. Sorry, but I don't feel any sympathy for him. He's coming off like a pampered whiny boy who just can't believe he was actually held accountable for something for once in his life.

Re: “Lawmakers File Resolution to Decry Gay Marriages

Well, Truescholar has once again proven he's unwilling to be honest and created a very poor strawman fallacy, as well as continuing to use lemmings as a metaphor in spite of being told repeatedly his beliefs about lemmings are false.

Truescholar, did you read any of the above comments? No one has said "mothers and motherhood are entirely irrelevant and worthless" or that "it's completely irrelevant if an innocent infant is intentionally separated from their mother". You can't deny that children are a requirement of marriage or vice versa. Why not just admit that fact?

In fact in this whole thread the only person who's advocated taking children away from their families is you. I'll ask again: why do you hate the children of same-sex parents so much?

As for the Western European nations you keep referring to, as I pointed out many of them have legalized same-sex marriage. So what does that say about your claim that same-sex marriage will lead to economic surrogacy?

I wish you'd actually address some of the points being made by those of us who, contrary to your claims, are demonstrably smarter than you, but apparently you don't want to engage in honest debate. I suppose I could start making up false arguments and putting them in your mouth but I don't want to stoop to your level.

Don't like Funk (the DA, not the beat) , don't like Phil Williams (sanctimonious jerk).

Why not put them both in a cage. Two go in, one comes out.

Re: “What It's Like to Be Sexually Harassed

I am extremely saddened by the content of this article – from the number of sexual harassment experiences you have undergone, to the number of others who have experienced similar (or worse), to the supposed “way to curb sexual harassment” implied by Beth Harwell. It is a sad truth in today’s society that an astounding number of women experience some form of sexual harassment in the workplace. According to a Huffington post article published just last year, one in three women between the ages of 18 and 34 has been sexually harassed at work. The “solution” posed by Harwell is not a solution at all. In my opinion, telling interns not to attend events or not to give out their phone numbers is the opposite of a solution. In a way, it is simply encouraging the behavior of the men (or women) sexually harassing them – if they are never either corrected or punished for sexually harassing others, it is very unlikely that we will ever see an end to these actions.

On a more positive note, I absolutely love your concluding paragraphs. Your questions to Speaker Harwell are not only important but also ones that I would love to see answered.

Re: “Funk Files $200M Defamation Suit Against News Channel 5, Phil Williams

WTVF links to the complaint online.

It seems to me that there are no good guys here. The NewsChannel 5 story did not outright accuse Glen Funk of receiving or soliciting a bribe. Phil Williams juxtaposed unrelated facts which, even if literally true, seemed intended to allow an untrained or unsophisticated viewer to draw that inference.

David Chase's complaint is that he was effectively coerced into dismissing a damages suit against police personnel as a condition of the District Attorney's assent to dismissal of a non-meritorious criminal prosecution. Mr. Chase had a solid factual basis to regard that conduct as blackmail, and a public official who engages in that kind of conduct should not be heard to kvetch when he is called out on it. The problem was the mention of David Chase's characterization of Glenn Funk's negotiating tactics as blackmail in the same story with the questionable conduct of Bill Fletcher asking Dean Chase (David Chase's father) for $2 million to make the case go away.

That juxtaposition was a hatchet job by Phil Williams.

Glen Funk's own pleadings in Circuit Court allege highly questionable conduct by Funk and his office in regard to the negotiated dismissal of the domestic violence prosecution of David Chase. If there was not evidence in that case that the prosecutors believed would support proof beyond reasonable doubt, then the DA should have dismissed he case on that basis alone, without carrying water to gain a collateral advantage for crooked cops. The information available in the various media, including Mr. Funk's own statements and pleadings, evince unethical, and arguably crooked conduct, by the prosecutor. Shame on him and on the horse he rode in on.

Glenn Funk is the author of his own misfortune here.

"A jury of six (6) six?"

Now that a public official is a party to media litigation, will local media, never known to ignore any action initiated by a public official, be more or less inclined than usual to report on itself/allegations against its competitor news and PR organizations?

Ya think a District Attorney might be a "little touchy" about being accused of soliciting a $2 million bribe?

A little bit of a dumb ass, are we TT?

And, yeah sure. Glenn Funk has been on this site posting under my name for more than a decade. Right.

Re: “Funk Files $200M Defamation Suit Against News Channel 5, Phil Williams

Nonsense, Notguilty and Titian. The sanctimonious prick Phil Williams, his producers, and the Channel 5 legal team are the ones who made a mistake. A big as hell mistake that will certainly cost their employers millions of dollars, their reputations and -- for some of them -- their jobs.

Funk did not file this suit without being 100 percent sure of himself. Look for Bill Fletcher to file, and win, his own lawsuit within the week.

Hope Channel 5 thinks a cheap shot in sweeps week was worth it.

Re: “Lawmakers File Resolution to Decry Gay Marriages

Well , the lemmings have once again proven their IQs are far too low to engage in substantive discussion. The lemmings start from a very poorly thought out premise. That mothers and motherhood are entirely irrelevant and worthless. Think about that for a second, they literally are saying that it's completely irrelevant if an innocent infant is intentionally separated from their mother. How can something so fundamentally human , as having a mother and being loved by your mother be so quickly dismissed ? This points to the larger problem of the gay marriage narrative. It seeks to redefine what it means to be human, through language and the law try to change how we think about ourselves. The rot within our culture is extensive and the lemmings are willing participants.

Oh it says something else? Please calculate the percent of Western European nations that outright ban surrogacy . Tyia , low iq lemming.
