Re: “Man, What a Great State for Rich People!

I'm sorry, I've forgotten the PITH-approved starting wage for unskilled workers. Do tell.

I also missed any context regarding wages 2 or more years out. And, benefits. And, retention rates.

One thing this does show: $45,000 to start as a teacher in public schools is a freaking goldmine.

Re: “Hey, Ladies, Here's the Growing List of Things to Avoid Should You Want to Stay Alive

Thank you for that irrelevant bullshit, Jimmy. Betsy's post was about the victimization of women by "I'll kill you if I can't possess and control you" assholes.

That men get murdered or carjacked more than women in overall crime statistics is a bizarre red herring, totally off topic, and revelatory of either your lack of intelligence or your desire to rationalize and justify violence against women.

We all know about and hear about these guys who just cannot accept that the girlfriend or wife won't submit to them anymore -- and then stalk, terrorize, beat up, maim, or sometimes kill those women. It is a real problem. And while there are occasional examples of women victimizing men in such a way, they are just that -- occasional. These "I own you" jerks occur far too often, and women have very reason to be wary about them.

Re: “Hey, Ladies, Here's the Growing List of Things to Avoid Should You Want to Stay Alive

Anecdotal fear mongering.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_the…

... In 2011, surveys indicated more than 5.8 million violent victimizations and 17.1 million property victimizations took place in the United States; according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, each property victimization corresponded to one household, while violent victimizations is the number of victims of a violent crime.[31]

...

In terms of gender, males were more likely to become crime victims than were females,[32] with 79% percent of all murder victims being male. Males were twice as likely to be carjacked as females.[32] ...

A new anti-Muslim sock puppet appears. Who could be behind it?

I'm just kidding. We all know who it is.

44allin -- so there just happen to be a lot of mentally ill men running around shooting people, and it's totally a coincidence that they shoot women who made them angry? I wonder why it's all men. Could it be we should consider taking guns away from angry men?

Re: “The Daily Links: Gawkpocalypse, Bill Cosby, and Donald Trump

Thank you, Donald Trump, for taking a shot at that sacred cow. I do not believe that military service automatically equals heroism (and many servicemen agree). I still feel that The Donald should instead talk about McCain's voting record in the Senate, where he shown little valor in fighting Democrats. The fact that he chose Palin, a lovely lady and a passionate American, but utterly unqualified to be a Commander-in-Waiting, is proof that McCain is a weak man and possibly addled.

Always keep your face covered, and do not venture into public without your husband or your brothers.

Re: “A lavish rite of teenage passage opens a window onto Middle Tennessee's Hispanic communities — and their growing economic power

Quince anos? I think I counted more than fifteen at that party. Growing economic power? Just keep thinking those good thoughts, you good little consumers. What are these girls going to look like in ten years? Fat fat fat! You can tell by the mass of the shoulders. Peasants dreaming of luxury.

Way to oversimplify. This has nothing to do with women excessing their right to choose, and everything to do with mental illness.

Perhaps this is just an attempt to crank up the public outrage at the state bureaucracy and cronyism so Haslam can finally outsource this whole prison thing to his campaign cash contributing friends at CCA.

Re: “Proper Bagel Under Construction on Belmont; Share Your Bagel Thoughts

"Proper" bagels, as made and sold in places where they have long been part of the culture, are boiled, (water is best, but there are credible "Philadelphia egg bagel" variations if you like that sort of thing) and always, always finished with an egg wash that gives them a shiny, identifiable crust on the outside. (Sesame or onion or "everything" should not be slathered on so thick that it sticks to your hand or falls off--although the egg wash helps prevent those.) They were never intended to be doughnuts, and to be for morning "savory" not sweet--butter-freindly and able to soak that up if you toast it, cream cheese happy if you're having it in the traditional context with lox, onions, etcetera. I don't see why it wouldn't be perfectly for somebody else to want the sweet ones if that's what they like, but the above are a few basics for making the bagel a bagel--"properly". Revolutionary around here would be if they also sold bialys--which, I suspect, most people reading this have never heard of--but would make many people happy.

Don't forget to add "get pulled over for not using turn signal" to this list.

Re: “Boom Town Chats: What Does the City of Nashville Need?

North Carolina is moving ahead with vouchers after winning a court battle with, of course, the teachers unions.

Jim Collins believes the MNPS horribly underfunded. Instead of depending on charters we need a leap of faith forward with a check-$4-5K yearly, to arrange for your own education. Wealthier parents have found choice to improve the system, not JC's regular calls for teacher raises.

JC should l try to understand why people go to private schools. Why not offer the less advantaged the same opportunities?

Capitalism?

The personnel of the Department of Correction provide necessary services, but not in a free market where consumers pay voluntarily.

"This, to me, shows the great problem at the core of capitalism."

This, to me, shows the great problem at the core of cronyism.

Re: “Looney Turns Down MNPS, Will Remain in Williamson County

Willie: The superintendent , as do many other employees work year round. By local standards he is well paid according to his industry. That being said, if recruiting someone from beyond the south, the board may need to adjust this pay upward to be effective.

Looney as attractive as he was, had little experience working in top management in a district approaching this size. I feel his attraction was his being the best of the lot offered by the search firm, which concerns me. Perhaps a better search and/or firm would be in order. I really have little faith in this firm given it's record with their last effort.
