Re: “Which Side of the Abortion Debate is State Sen. Mark Green on Again?

One more time: yoyo, etc. We won, you fucking losers lost. And we're going to kick your pansy asses come November and forget Merrick Garland getting on SCOTUS, it's going to be a real fire-breathing liberal and you loser conservative small hands pansies are going to be all over Fuck News screaming, bitching and moaning about how it just isn't fair that a liberal is taking over Fat Tony's "conservative" seat and that elections really don't matter unless a conservative wins one.
Suck it. Abortion is legal, ethical and it's going to continue to be just that and you can't stop it, no matter how pissed off you are that you couldn't get laid in college, when all the hot girls were fucking everyone but you like rabbits, and sometimes getting abortions as a result. Fuck off.

Ha, Betty Phillips talking about capitalism! That's funny! Next it will be The Hildabeast talking about embassy security or Jim Collins talking about working! Or Obummer giving a speech without a teleprompter! Or Gruber actually telling the truth for once! LOL!

Uh, Bill Purcell did NOT grow up in East Nashville. I think he grew up in Pennsylvania.

The last native we have had as mayor was Bill Boner.

Re: “With wine in grocery stores and a new head of the ABC, Tennesseans are optimistic about the future of alcohol in the state

This change was a long time in the making. If anyone ever wanted to see how political sausage is made, this is a case study. Alcohol sales are heavily regulated at all levels of government. What bothered retailers was the fact they have played by the draconian rules and regs for so long, not even being able to sell a bag of ice or tonic. Then, the grocers who have thousands of items in their stores would have the right to sell what typically makes up 50% of a retailer's yearly revenues. Coupled with the fact that Keith Bell came into power and regularly abused that power, the retailers had their backs up against the wall.

What is not noted is Bell was equally loathed by all interested industry factions- he was an equal opportunity a-hole. The commission eventually knew it and eventually dealt with him. The commission knew Bell would embarrass the Haslam administration, something Haslam and his staff were aware of at least two years ago.

Byrd seems to be the perfect guy for the job. Unfortunately, Bell had created such problems at the TABC that not many folks were interested in the position. But, it appears that Byrd was the right person at the right time. If he can manage the deluge of change and evenly and rationally apply the rules and regs he will do well. But, the bad taste left in the mouths of industry players caused by Bell will not soon fade.

I don't see liquor being sold on Sunday or in groceries anytime soon. The next skirmish will again be national chains such as Total Wine and More entering the market. Like the hardware stores we all knew in our childhood, liquor stores will become few and far between if the regs are loosened to allow liquor in groceries. While there is a common misconception that those who own liquor stores print money, that's simply not the case when you must buy your Jack Daniels, your Mondavi, and your Sebastiani from only one distributor who sets a price on that brand and who has no other competition in the state selling it. Folks, if you want to create convenience and keep the playing field even, a hard look needs to be taken at the industry top to bottom. The grocers have the power to take on the wholesalers who have controlled the industry since prohibition. Perhaps that will be the good that flows from this paradigm shift.

Re: “Butch Spyridon: A Man Without a Past

Christ, this guy....What's it like to live as if context doesn't exist? Answer: You can't. This knew what he wanted and got it, from what version of reality does he come from where he thinks he has any right to complain?

@ Bite Me,

"Now you'll have to go back to bombing clinics and murdering doctors and screaming incoherent shit at women going into PP."

"Go back to"? When did they ever stop?

Re: “Butch Spyridon: A Man Without a Past

I don't suppose there's anything to keep Mr. Spyridon from using his influence to get some reasonably priced hotels built in downtown or midtown. They could put one in that big hole on West End.

Re: “Butch Spyridon: A Man Without a Past

Someone, not in the hotel business, telling hotels they are operating in a shortsighted manner, is laughable.

For one, hotels do what hotels should do, not what bureaucrats or cheerleaders do.

Secondly, hotels can manipulate room rates extremely easily. There is virtually no time period too short where rates can't be lowered (or raised) if need be.

There were riots. See Tulsa OK 1921; Chicago 1919, Elaine AR 1919 etc etc etc

Re: “Butch Spyridon: A Man Without a Past

I seem to recall that he once complained about a lack of high-end hotels which is part of why we gave the Omni and other pricey places huge welfare checks to build their hotels.
Maybe if we'd subsidized the lower end of the market---the motels MOST people can afford, he'd not be boo-hooing so much now.

Re: “Which Side of the Abortion Debate is State Sen. Mark Green on Again?

yoyo has been looking for me online.

I can just see a map of Nashville in his dusty little room with thumb tacks in all the restaurants I mention.

Strings attached, triangulations formed. Public records searched.

I hope you found me yoyo.

And I hope you come see me.

I have something for you.

I have a cure for your sickness.

I can heal you.

My job is kicking yoyo moi in the metaphorical nuts everyday.

yoyo's job is to imitate me poorly and to call my mother a whore.

You should be very proud of yourself.

A great example of a Christian republicon.

Well done, dickhead.

"the nearest Kroger is four miles away from me"

Actually Revelator, I checked it's less than a mile from where you live. The walk will do you good, not sure about the EBT card though.
