Re: “Nashville Recap: ‘That’s Me Without You’

I've been watching this show from the beginning, and reading recaps on other sites. This is the first time I've found my way to this blog, and I actually am weirdly on the fence in terms of cosigning both the many comments saying how hilarious Ms. Spurgeon's snarky quips often are, but also the complaint about getting overly nasty.

Specifically, I thought the hatred for the road-tripping trio of Gunnar, Scarlett, and Avery went too far. I like all three characters, but I don't begrudge anyone feeling differently. However, this is just purely hateful: "Scarlett pulls over and now her car is dead, but I wish they were the ones who were dead." And it's not even cleverly witty, like so much else in the recap.

Also, just BTW: it wasn't Scarlett saying she thought she'd be with a better man (right to Avery's face?!? no way) but Avery saying it.

At least McConnell doesn't think he's too entitled to formally debate his competition like that smug Alexander.

Re: “The Daily Links: GamerGate, Modern Medicine and Horror Moview

It's easy for some to hate, to denigrate via ethnic and/or racial lines. It;s easy to speak loudly about phantom boogeymen and conspiracies designed to eradicate all that you have gathered, your so called "birth right", your nation that frankly, you have really done little, and done it grudgingly, to support, to benefit at any significant cost. Except those almighty tax dollars, with nary a thought about those whom belong to the very communities that you denigrate, that you hate. And you easily find demagogues to support your slanted POV, to slyly reinforce your opinions, to tout and post the same hate, the same denigrations that you espouse daily. It's easy to hate, it's easy to denigrate, it's easy to grasp frantically the threads of racial/ethnic superiority that evade reason, but populate your thoughts, your beliefs, your religion if you will. It's easy to hate. It's oh, so easy!

Re: “The Daily Links: GamerGate, Modern Medicine and Horror Moview

A Texas Border Volunteer Reconsiders His Mission.

“You get down there and you begin to see humanity,” he says. “You can set up here and watch Fox News and say ‘these alien bastards, we need to shut the border down.’ But what I saw coming through Brooks County was humanity.” Once, he says they rescued a pregnant woman in her 20s—tired and desperate—who gave birth hours later while she was in a detention center.

Support the Texas Observer
Another time Border Patrol came across a man in his 40s who looked like he’d gotten off work on a casual Friday. He was walking with an 8-year-old boy who’d been left behind by the coyotes. The man had abandoned his trek to stay with the boy, a stranger, knowing they’d both likely be captured and deported. “He essentially sacrificed himself so the kid wouldn’t be left alone.”

And there were the dead bodies—some 300 corpses have been reported in Brooks County in the last three years alone. Once, Gilbert found a man in his late 20s or early 30s limply resting against a tree. His eyes had been plucked out by vultures. The sight shook him.

“Apparently this country was worth dying for,” he remembers thinking. “I had a hard time not feeling profoundly upset by that.”…

Re: “Behind the Amendment 1 vote on abortion rights lies a tangle of case law, confusion and conflict

Amendment 1 is an attempt to undermine the Supreme Court ruling that gives a woman choice. To let state politicians (ANY politicians) make these personal decisions for us is ludicrous. As I suspected, far right religious loons are pushing for the passage of this legislation, which is by itself grounds for opposing it. But, it is common sense in the end that must prevail, demanding a resounding no vote. No politician has the right to stick his or her nose into something that is so personal to us. I am not comfortable with abortion, but I am terrified of government. Choice is freedom. Any attempt to control it is a step back into the darkness.

Why does District Attorney Glen Funk let his subordinates get away with this garbage? Sounds like more of the same.

Re: “Gaile Owens gets parole on what would have been the anniversary of her execution

Our system is terrible. Its a disgrace that she is allowed to walk while the murder died in jail. All she did was plan, plot and strategize the murder. I guess that wasn't enough involvement

Re: “As Nashville's immigrant population grows, Metro public schools are straining at the seams

The keyword that I missed is illegal or legal.
There is a big difference. Most illegals work for cash. They take manual labor jobs that previously were taken by the uneducated or untrained people. Now those people live off the government and do not find it necessary to work.
Sometimes I dream of what it would be like to sit home and watch Jerry Springer and impregnate women on the weekend without responsibility! My only worry would be to check online to see how much was left on my ebt, SNAP, section 8, job training program and other benefits. I dowouldnt have to worry about medical, just go to the clinic or any emergency room.
But alas! thats out of the question, I'm too busy working and paying 38% Federal Tax rate.

Re: “Brad Pitt World War II bloodbath Fury calls to mind a lot of other war movies

"Fury" is the name of latest movie with Brad Pitt, a film the actor not only promotes walking in shows, but even putting hard "bone" to work, Fury movie in which Brad Pitt plays the leader of a reserve platoon that survived many horrors in the Second world War. However, towards the end of the war when the Nazi regime is collapsing and all signs portend the end of World War II, veteran team Fury tank, sees the face of incredible mission, while being burdened with a new recruit that has never seen the inside of a tank, the film focuses on the relationship between the veteran played by Brad Pitt and new recruit played by Logan Lerman, All frames start, make David Ayer film look very conventional. But things change immediately when conventional silence is interrupted by some impressive shots showing battle scenes and war contingencies, best movie to watch with the whole family
