Re: “#Lamarwatch: Internal Poll Shows Alexander Up Big Over Carr

Eric Cantor's pollster must have done Mitt's too. I'm reminded of a bubble bursting. Haha. Romney2012

Re: “The Daily Links: Jon Bon Jovi, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Gambler's Fallacy

The best part is how they make Boehner, shut down the government, sue the president, stand on his head, paint himself orange - NO LEGISLATION MOVES - then when HE needs them to sign the border funding appropriation - they leave him HANGING. Brutal. This is the modern republiCON party. Nutters. Nutty Butters. The tea-hadists are KICKING THEIR ASS. (It really couldn't happen to a bigger bunch of...)

Nashville Scene-how about a story about how much the bus passes given to all high school kids that us taxpayers have to pay for even if the student never rides the MTA bus? Why cant they take the school bus?

john, "your people" is a direct quote from your previous post @ 2:05. I was curious what you meant about Revelator's people as opposed to you or anybody else's "people".

Re: “The Daily Links: Jon Bon Jovi, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Gambler's Fallacy

About the Seattle cop: First is the question of why the rest of the force is relatively inactive in the issuance of marijuana citations. Then the light bulb clicks on and shines on the most likely reality which is that the cop is assigned to a certain part of the city where a segment of the population is openly flaunting the law. In response to complaints the chieftess of police is sending in a different cop with orders to look the other way. I could be wrong but if I'm not she should be fired.

@Doyle: Interesting link.

Re: “"Duck Dynasty" the Albatross Around Franklin Company's Neck?

Mr. Robertson has not been presented on video, so far, saying he "hates gays and blacks." The comments that caused such an uproar were in a GQ magazine interview, which is available at http://www.gq.com/entertainment/television/201401/duck-dynasty-phil-robertson.

Mr. Robertson is in several videos on his church's YouTube site, including http://youtu.be/YhnxDSOxfss, in which he interprets 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 and Romans 1:26-32, among others.

The verses above are laundry lists from the Apostle Paul on the people whose active sin will make them unwelcome in heaven. I did not know until very recently that the Robertsons are affiliated with the Church of Christ. This disturbs me a great deal, since I have never, for all its human foibles, seen or heard anyone in that denominate preach about child brides (http://youtu.be/FDhCxER2fqM), nor preach such hatred against sinners. The C of C ministers I've heard (along with many fine Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopalian and Catholic ministers) have explained that those included in the verses above are just the proverbial tip of the sin iceberg and that devout Christians should reach out to those people and share the good news with them so they too can know heaven, not hate and judge them. The ministers I've heard have been blunt, yes, but not hate-filled.

I did find this old video of Mr. Robertson, which seems more in keeping with how he claims to have been raised and believed -- at least until the bright lights and big money got hold of him. http://youtu.be/4cvPWFmHhjc

I was unfortunately convinced to venture into our local Super Walmart (the one many Murfreesboroans and neighbors refer to as "the Woodbury Walmart") a couple of months ago, by the way, and was struck by the volume of "Duck Dynasty" products overflowing the clearance racks. We peeped to see if this was a seasonal situation. It was not. There was no other "Duck Dynasty" paraphernalia on the regular shelves. And if the "Woodbury Walmart" isn't buying their stuff, I suspect other folks aren't either.

That eyewitness observation supports Betsy's thesis on the "Duck Dynasty" retail decline much more than the PR-agency-fed paragraph that prompted her post.

Re: “Why The Tennessean's Endorsement of Gary Odom Undermines Endorsements

Well written, great points all around. Lost is this gem: So, it would seem, this is more a rejection of Clemmons than an endorsement of Odom.

What isn't considered, however, is that the Tennessean, despite all of it's flaws (many outlined above), wants to be with a winner. If this was a close race, maybe they would have had some balls and gone with Clemmons, maybe we would be more upset. But, shocker, this is not going to close, and the Tennessean knows that.

Remember, Clemmons finished a distant fourth in a Council race a few years ago; he's wishy washy on the Amp; he's using Dean and Bredesen's name to exaggerate his resume; he's meddling in the middle of a controversial school rezoning issue (very non-legislative stuff) so he can get "a new baby" into better schools; and he's generally a slimball.

Lastly, negative mail doesn't work very well, especially when you don't have good name ID. And TV for anything less than a Mayor's race (especially if done by Fletcher/Rowley) isn't effective. Ask Judge Jameson.

Run for Democratic executive committee, Clemmons. Start there.

Don't get me wrong, Odom needs a challenger, but Clemmons isn't the guy. Maybe next time....

Re: “Why The Tennessean's Endorsement of Gary Odom Undermines Endorsements

This is an excellent, and just about terrifying, report. Thank you, Mr. Hale, for it.

It's yet more proof of what happens to a community when its perceived sole "paper of record" is so diminished in its capability and willfully disconnected to its readership. Just think how effective The Tennessean could have been -- to the handful of people who still actually use it to make their political decisions, that is -- had it used this very same information to explain why it chose NOT to make an endorsement in this particular race.

I commend the Scene for its choice against making endorsements as well. Frankly, if a media outlet is doing its job properly, endorsements are unnecessary, because the audience is well-informed enough through the outlet's regular political coverage to make informed choices.

Re: “The Daily Links: Forensic Folly, Kim Kardashian, and Richard Nixon

Saddam Hussein said before he was hanged that he wanted the world to think he had WMDs so that Iran wouldn't invade. He was successful in his subterfuge and now he is dead because of it. That is a good thing.

Re: “Can Someone Please Stop Gov. Haslam From Writing Letters?

These comments about Gibson and rosewood are disengenuous. I would guess JC and his sidekick Prag have not bothered to really look at all this. The part about the 12 armed men seems uncontested. Gibson settled this case and was never charged. It was the only way out for a small business.

JC, you are the jackboot man. Don't forget that.

A detailed report can be found at NPR, a perfect first source for this issue.

Gibson believes the wood legal.

http://www.npr.org/blogs/therecord/2011/08…

Also, if one googles around the poisonous hand of union influence plus our US Dept of Justice can be found. Yes, Gibson is non-union and the owner a big Rebuplican donor.

I would add Gibson paid off the feds, $250K, and lost the wood. Extortion, right?.

Re: “"Duck Dynasty" the Albatross Around Franklin Company's Neck?

If memory serves, GLAAD threatened A&E with all sorts of whatever and demanded Phil be fired because Phil said the bible says that homosexuality is a sin. Also Phil said he worked in the fields with negroes when he was a teenager and they seemed happy enough to him. Guilt-ridden white racial cowards demanded he be fired for dredging up such a repulsive memory. A&E would have fired him accept they would have lost their most popular show.

Re: “Humphrey To Leave The Hill — Who Will Succeed Him?

I am not sure where I saw it, but I think Rick Locker of the Commercial Appeal is going to pick up the Capitol coverage for the two Scripps/Journal papers, the CA and the KNS. Locker is an exceptional journalist who was buried by their former editor, Chris Peck, who thought the suburban readers he craved didn't care about politics. Fortunately, he left and was replaced by new editor Louis Graham, who is letting Locker cover Nashville like he can, which is especially good since Humphrey is "retiring".

Re: “Can Someone Please Stop Gov. Haslam From Writing Letters?

@GregHanners--as God as my witness, there is a FB group called "Red Flag News" that has published a story about how Obummer is going to institute draconian actions when (not if) ebola makes it to the homeland. There are a lot of posters who are convinced that these kids are bringing ebola with them from Honduras.

Stupid is the most powerful force in the universe.
