Re: “Martin's Bar-B-Que to Open New Joint on Belmont Boulevard

I do like Edley's. Been good every time, especially the greens. Really like sitting outside at the East location just to have a beer. Doesn't make sense to put them that close to one another, but only time will tell.

Mr. Pink, maybe they will serve coffee, that way if the Frothy Monkey is crowded, you can go to Martins.

"Would have been a great spot for an indie coffee house or a great breakfast place. But we get pig meat and beef. Yukk."

Because Belmont and 12South are really hurting for indie coffee houses. Somebody should open one.

Re: “Martin's Bar-B-Que to Open New Joint on Belmont Boulevard

I have yet to go to any Edley's and have them get my order right, and the barbecue I had at the new East Nashville location a few weeks ago was mushy, gray and unappealing. As for "you can't turn around in nashville without your dick hitting at least 3 bbq joints," you're either lying, bragging or both. Good barbecue in this area is mighty hard to come by.

They're super nice guys, they make good food and welcome to the neighborhood - but Edley's is superior in every way. I am down with Edley's.

Re: “Transformation on 12th Avenue: 12 South Bistro

Yes it's 12South, but that's NOT 12South. Good luck, though!

Re: “Martin's Bar-B-Que to Open New Joint on Belmont Boulevard

I hate to admit it but, I kind of agree with "dickie" on this one. I'm continually amazed by the sheer numbers of BBQ places in "Nowville" and I've tried Martin's several times and have to say I've had plenty better. If they hit the price point right the will be printing money in that area. Let the marketplace decide...

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread Asks, 'What's Your Favorite Lowbrow Indulgence?'

Spaghettios with browned garlic and fresh red pepper added...all that flavor and only 4 grams of fat. (Thank goodness I can tolerate the sodium!)

Re: “Martin's Bar-B-Que to Open New Joint on Belmont Boulevard

I attend church at Christ the King.....I wondered what was going in there...It`s been vacant for nearly a year....This is fantastic news......Belmont is becoming quite the "Food Boulevard"...I could see Martin`s presence leading to some other eating establishments opening on that end of the Belmont as leases come up

Re: “The Southern Vegetarian Book Signing Event, Plus a Giveaway

I love that blog and can't wait to get the book. I'm a chubby vegetarian, as well.

My favorite Southern vegetarian dish is squash casserole, but I'd love a good recipe for vegetarian gravy to serve with biscuits.

From the photo on the Channel 4 site, I'd say be on the lookout for Walter Matthau with elf ears:

Love his BBQ but Martin's also has a solid burger. It's always hard to make that decision when i drive to Nolensville but now it will be easy. BBQ on the even days and burgers on the odd. Can't wait!

Re: “The Southern Vegetarian Book Signing Event, Plus a Giveaway

We love things like mushrooms and eggplant to add a meatiness to dishes. Check out our recipes for Japanese eggplant spiced and seared and served over some of the best red beans and rice you've ever had: http://chubbyvegetarian.blogspot.com/2011/11/vegetarian-red-beans-rice-andouille.html

Bad news for Edleys, but GREAT news for Osborne Bi-Rite!

I enjoy the food at Edleys, but think a little competition may motivate them to improve their crappy customer service.

Anita, you and your food were well loved and highly regarded.
Thank you for so many years of hard work, delicious bites, and great times.
Also, Mambu was the cutest most delightful restaurant experience :) loved the kitsch.

Re: “The Southern Vegetarian Book Signing Event, Plus a Giveaway

My family loves spicy jambalaya, gumbo, and other dishes that call for andouille sausage. How could these dishes be revamped, preserving the bold flavors (and hopefully the texture)? Also, there are lots of chopped/shredded chicken casseroles in cream sauces or with cheese (King Ranch Chicken, Poppy Seed Chicken, Chicken with Wild Rice, Baked Chicken Spaghetti, etc.). Is there any substitution besides the fake chicken products?
