Re: “Bill Haslam and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week

Bob K is right. Prior to Haslam & Friends, Tennessee had a conservative, pro-business development mindset that acknowledged the need for investment in public education, higher education, in rural infrastructure development (including keeping rural hospitals afloat), and projecting an image to prospective employers that Tennessee is not a backwater. We were generous with incentives to lure industry (and got stupidly so under Bredesen), but tried to project an image of competent, pro-business leadership. That is gone, thanks to the clowns in power now. Now we right big checks to businesses with no accountability for the result and no public examination of where it's going and why. We let our colleges crumble and teach mythology as science in our schools. We forgo a chance to extend basic healthcare to hundreds of thousands of working poor people, endangering our rural hospitals. The new governing mindset is based on cronyism and ignorance- the first essential characteristics of an economic backwater. But hey, it'll be electorally safe for the GOP!

Re: “Blowhard Lou Dobbs puts his foot even further down his throat opining about women in the workplace

I guess that's the problem with TMI. Then people expect more TMI. You all are going to know waaaaaay too much about me if we keep going at this rate.

All I will say about Ben Wa balls is that there *may* be one rolling around somewhere in Charleston. But that's another story.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: Give Us Your Top 5 Restaurants

Just an FYI, Rolf and Daughters sets aside several seats for walk-ins every night, and the now open patio is totally reservation free. I met a friend there last Thursday at 6ish and snagged two primo seats at the bar. And the patio had space even an hour later. Been several times and loving everything----food, drinks, service, ambiance and price point.

"Bill spins so fast and so often that he generates his own gravitational field."

Gravitational fields are created by mass, not rotation.

Thanks for the link, Lesley! Will be saving this read and helpful comment notes for when I finally think I'm ready to tackle sourdough. Hopefully, soon!

@xray: "I also comment on numskulls [sic] who need racial division to justify their existence "

So why have you never called bobs out on his attempts at racial division?

Further, you should call yourself out. While you say you speak of the "criminal elements of black society and how they affect the decent people of black society," you remain curiously silent on criminal elements in your own society and how they affect the decent people of your own society.

My suggestion to you: keep your side of the street clean before you start touting yourself as such a paragon of virtue.

Re: “The Southern Baptist Convention Walks a Fine Line

Well, perhaps they do not claim to be much better. They don't wish to dictate political policy based on religious views, a strategy clearly violating the constitution. Perhaps they do not condemn people based on facts of birth and sexual identity, or for exercising their religious freedom in a non intrusive manner. Perhaps they realize that this country was founded by virtue of diversity; ethnic, religious, and socially. Perhaps they are the antithesis to you!

BTW: Nice story, try using it as a personal model for YOUR ethics!

Re: “Bill O'Reilly and Dennis Miller Coming, Boldly and Freshly, to the Ryman

@NeverFear - Barney Frank is smarter than both of those two guys. Whoopie is funnier than either one of them. And Chris Mathews is a better man, father and human being than both of those two combined. Funny you should mention them.

Re: “Bill Haslam and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week

Oh bobsguns, how typical of you all. Blame it on someone else.

I don't' know about DHS, but in Labor, he appointed a totally incompetent Commissioner who in turn fired experienced employees and hired more incompetent cronies.

Pretty typical of how Republicans have destroyed decades of well-run state government. You know like dismantling the economic development team that brought Tennessee more Japanese investment than any other state in the country. An economic development team which was built starting with Frank Clement and Andy Holt at the graduate school of public administration at UTK.

And in general services, we know the problems are exactly like economic development. Haslem simply wanted to give money to his buddies so they could make more money at the expense of the citizens of Tennessee.

You are wrong bubba. Haslem has done more harm to this state in 2 years than all governors in the past 50 years.

Fear not fellow posters, Barney Frank & Whoopie Goldberg will be appearing together
here soon to collect the Liberal dollars. Not sure of the name of their tour, but Chris
Matthews may be their special Nashville only guest.

And if you think those 3 departments' issues began during Haslam's term, then I have a NFL team to sell you in Memphis..............

I'm confused over the Judge's insistence that an opinion from the Attorney General is an absolute necessity on any law passed. Such opinion may be helpful in drafting a law, but to be a "must" before legal passage just doesn't sound correct.

Re: “Ignoring Critics, Floyd Repeats Threat Against Transgender People

'Transgender' is Highly Abnormal; just like the people who are trying to transplant lungs and eyes, etc . If you need someone elses body-parts then basicly you are already dead and then it is an unfair theft of the other person / the frankenstein Victim .
