It's in the Frist auditorium. You might check with the Frist to see if there's a waiting list:

Re: “Grace Coddington and Karen Elson, two of the biggest names in fashion, tell all at The Frist

That info is in the box under the photo of Grace Coddington, but I'll repaste here: "Grace Coddington appears in conversation with Karen Elson Sunday, Dec. 2, at The Frist Center. The $50 tickets include a copy of Coddington's book Grace: A Memoir."

Nice article and I would love to attend the conversation at The Frist on December 2. Did I miss something in the article, like what time the event is and where in The Frist is the event to be held? Can I pre-order tickets? A little more information would be very helpful.

Re: “Andrew Jackson surges to glory as the Tennessee State Museum surveys the War of 1812

Mr. Lind, as a student of the Creek Indian War and especially the roll of Andrew Jackson aka Old Hickory, I find your description of him very true and accurate. Though wounded from a duel, with quick spirit he took the charges from the President and his Governor, led and inspired his troops south into my state of Alabama where he was ready and able to fight. With a failure of provisions he still managed to be on the lookout and ready to battle where need be. When 1080 Red Stick, Creek warriors came north after massacre of so many at Fort Mims in south Alabama, they laid seige to the hastily built stockade around trader Alexander Leslie's home where some 140 friendly Creek moved for safety. A lone brave crawled out that night under cover of dark and the skin of a slain hog to slip away north to find Jackson at newly built Ft.Strother. At midnight that night Jackson roused his men and began a moonlit march all night and the next day to our town of Talladega. On that second morning he surrounded the Red Sticks with 2000 vallient Tennessee volunteers and a few hundred allied Cherokee and Choctaw and defeated the Red Sticks, leaving 299 dead on the battle field and several hundred more slain in rapid retreat. Meanwhile General Cocke with equal troops wrote compaints about his lack of supplies as well as complaints about Jackson. Good men were under both men and we of Alabama owe a hearty thank you for the brave men of all levels who stood up, left safety of home and came to our aide. Had Jackson not been so hickory strong in will and way the warring Creek would not have had their will tested and broken, nor would the US have won the Battle of New Orleans. God bless those who volunteer to fight and their descendants as well. We are a strong and safe nation under God because we help each other and keep our enemies at bay.

Re: “Skin, sin and spin at Nashville Fashion Week 2012

I don't think anyone scoffed at the idea of a Nashville Fashion Week. Hell, who doesn't have one now? Memphis, Knoxville, Murfreesboro, and even Chattanooga will have one this year. And that's just in this state. So I guess everyone can now run about with "Told you so" on their lips, but such attitudes only help create an atmosphere of high school pettiness. The problem people have is being led to think that Donatella Versace and her crew would come all the way to Tennessee when in actuality, the show really only featured clothes from the local Levy's store.

Re: “Bill Maher comes to unbuckle the Bible Belt and pull Nashville's pants down

@ praeus: Just for the record, I think Limbaugh's a gasbag, too. But I stone don't go for these many hair-splitting distinctions. The merits of Limbaugh's arguments on contraception simply don't apply to the issue of whether it is better, worse, or equally offensive to call a woman a slut, a cunt, or whatever.

Re: “Bill Maher comes to unbuckle the Bible Belt and pull Nashville's pants down

I must be the only person who read the article and commented without reading all the other comments. I must say after reading "all" the comments(and checking the tallied likes/dislikes) after the fact, I was somewhat surprised. I really didn't expect to see virtually everyone stuck on namecalling, the definitions thereof, who should be offended, and who is right. Dang people, unless y'all just like rehashing the same ole shit, what's up!!! Much more was said and implied. Until we all get past all the ismists, it's just gonna get worse. Until liberalism and conservatism become second and third to the most important issue, we'll keep having elected presidents with around 50% of the vote. Which means we Americans will continue to argue over the same stuff; who's right and who's wrong and who is the dumbest person of the day. We all need to get off the high horse and quit claiming "I'm right and you're wrong. That number 1 issue shouldn't be an ism of any kind. When we start running this country the way the majority of us Americans have already been raised, with respect for ourselves and others, take care of the people who need help, and here's the big one.....drum roll.......... YOU CAN ONLY SPEND MONEY THAT YOU HAVE. IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD IT, YOU CANNOT HAVE IT. NO MATTER HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT IT.
Bill Mahar is a dumbass, and so is Rush Limbaugh. But you gotta love 'em or hate 'em. I love 'em both.
Since most of your responders are liberals, I would love to know one thing. If Bill Mahar is so great, why are his number of followers in the hundred thousands and Rush's followers in the 10's of millions? Just askin'.

Re: “Bill Maher comes to unbuckle the Bible Belt and pull Nashville's pants down

It's a shame very few people get it. Mr Silverman, your first paragraph, I'm guessing, is solely to bring in readers. On that note good job. After that you, as well as Mr Mahar, are either delusional(which i know you're not) or just plain ole wearing blinders so you can continue your career in the path you have set forth for yourself. All of the 'ismists" just want to keep getting those big paychecks and treated like the homecoming king or queen into adulthood. I suppose the rest of us normal people(that's all liberals and conservatives not living in "Hollywood" or "New York"; that's a common regular people joke) just don't know what's best for ourselves. I need no entertainer type nor greedy politician nor pollster to tell me what's best for me, my neighborhood, my city, or my state. Can you liberalists give me an example of government control that hasn't gone awry or deep into the red? According to y'all, nothing has, they just take more money from hardworking people to redistribute in a way that makes absolutely no business sense. Then refer to it as cost over-runs, then rudely reach into my pocket for more redistribution. Go ask someone raised in a socialist country pre-1990. The extremists, the hollywood types, and the greedy politicians will always be heard the most because they are the loudest. The rest of us liberals and conservatives just watch. Most of you are entertaining, I give you that. But you just don't get it!! Oh, is Mr. Mahar really surprised that 98% of Catholic women use contraception? Really? Or that the topic is a Consrvative issue that is backwoods? If there were a vote of just Republicans on the rights for a women to have abortion, the damn thing would be a land slide in favor. It's people like Mr. Mahar who take the opinion of a few extremist and tell his viewers that it's the opinion of the group as a whole. He could make so much more money if he would be just a little honest. Ooops, not possible, he's a "hollywood type". Sad but true. They just don't get it!!!

Re: “Bill Maher comes to unbuckle the Bible Belt and pull Nashville's pants down

I think he was wrong to use those words about Palin or anyone else. I'm not going to defend it. But as Christy pointed out, it is a false comparison to put this next to Limbaugh's tirade. Maher was ultimately criticizing Palin, her lack of qualifications and the inappropriateness of her being on the political scene. His words were wrong, but the criticisms were quite acceptable, even if you disagree with them. But for Rush, his non-apology was a sham because he only apologized for the words he used, not the concepts behind them. And the concepts behind the words were as much, if not more offensive than the actual words. He implied quite plainly that all woman who use contraceptives (all 98% of them) are promiscuous and want to use the government to subsidize their sex lives. You can rephrase that as euphemistically as possible and it is still an insulting message. And the message was not just insulting to Fluke, but to all woman. I find it hard to see how Maher's comments can apply to all women in the same way. And the political implications are massively different. Maher only implied that Sarah Palin was unqualified for office. Limbaugh implied that ALL women are unqualified to control their own bodies. If you can't see a difference, something is very wrong.

And the results of both events seem to prove this. Where was the boycott of Maher? Are you (conservatives like Jack and davidlongfellow claiming a false equivalence) saying that women are too stupid to know when they should be offended? I have yet to see a *woman* who was offended by Maher's comments. I'm sure it's possible that some women were offended. But it is pretty shady when a conservative guy comes on to tell women what they should have been offended by. Also, it is pretty shady to bring up an event that happened years ago, with little fanfare, all to try to rationalize indefensible behavior that happened much more recently.

And Sarah Palin has never attacked anyone's character with false accusations or called anyone else insulting names. Poor lil Wolf Killer. The dumb uninformed unprepared 'innocent' victim in all this.

Re: “Bill Maher comes to unbuckle the Bible Belt and pull Nashville's pants down

Jack, right, that's how I meant it. It blows my mind that we are so sympatico. This is high-level Jedi shit. I would call you a cunt, but of course this isn't my standup act! You can see I've learned so much in such a short time. I notice you didn't answer any of the substance of Harv's first post. You do not feel you are minimizing Maher's behavior. And righty so! There are the facts, of course, but I know the interview must have been a real knee-trembler. It would certainly be awkward to follow such a puff piece with a sober and serious examination of Maher's behavior. And my God, what if you run into him? He'd think you're pretty square. I say, if you can't sacrifice your credibility for a minor celebrity, who CAN you sacrifice it for?
