Re: “Losing The Connection

I am just now seeing this and it is a wonderful article. Gives some nice historical information. I was right up in the middle of all of this back in the day. And yes, we knew it was something special then but didn't know HOW special. The only thing I had really seen in comparison was "Backstreet" in Atlanta and I was overwhelmed by that. The Connection was posh and without attitude. Sometimes I almost like the original location better because of that lounge with the huge plate glass window that faced the dance floor. It helped shield some of the "thumpa-thumpa" where you could giggle, gossip and gab. The location on the river was just.....well....WOW! MONSTEROUS! When it first opened and you went in there your jaw dropped. It was very high class for Nashville and it was widely talked about. It is very true that straight and gay alike attended. You'd ask straight men and straight women why they came to Connections and they would always say, "The music. It's the best music in town." Up to this point the so called "dance music" played in the clubs were pitiful remixes of popular songs on the radio. This was different. It had an edge and was right on the cusp of all the techno dance music coming in.

The little "ass grabbin" bars as I like to call them, went out of vogue very quickly. It did the Warehouse in! The Chute tried to come back and expand but it never caught the glamour of Connections. However, the Chute catered to a different type of crowd. Connections was about the young'uns and boy did we take full advantage of it! I feel like I grew up inside Connections. I certainly became the person I wanted to be. And being from a rural town south of Nashville where you couldn't be yourself, THIS was a major breakthrough! Come as you are or who you think you are. You got to meet "city kids" and find out that you weren't any different. It was a whole new world opened up to me and it was fabulous!

I agree that the straight/gay alliance formed because of the place. Prior to that, the gay bars in Nashville were small. Hell, even to a young gay kid they were scary! I couldn't imagine being straight and trying to go in one of those dark, creepy clubs. LOL. The Connection was very colorful - very open and it had a variety of things including a gift shop, country bar and restaurant so there was a more easy feeling about it. Prior to that you basically went to these other bars to pick somebody up. There really wasn't much of a dance bar or place to be social. The Connection really did change the entire make up of gay social life in Nashville for YEARS. It was certainly a mecca and I sure am glad I got to experience it. I owe it a debt of gratitude for helping me be comfortable with who I am and to be the kind of person I wanted to be.

By the time it closed I was already into a relationship and that portion of my life was over. I've never been to Play so I'm really glad that as far as the Nashville gay life goes, my memories are with The Connection. Kids that have no clue about it and really don't understand how massive and impressive it was. Now all the little "theme" trendy bars are the rage and I feel kinda sorry for the kids today. They never had that experience with a club THAT big with THAT many people in it. There were THOUSANDS of people there on a good Saturday night and you had to walk a few blocks down in the warehouse district which was not exactly the best place in the world to be on foot. And that was not fun in the winter because they stopped having a coat check after a point! You left your coat in the car because you didn't wanna fool with it and you damn near froze to death with that wind coming off the water. LOL. AHHHHHHHHHHHH...........what a wonderful period in time.

Re: “There'll be no absolution for the man suing the Sisters at Aquinas College for reverse discrimination

All I can say is that Aquinas College has some major issues, their grading system is absurd, students need a 78 to pass. The nursing program tests are extremely hard and setup for students to fail them. They only want your money.
Peggy Daniel is the biggest bully and completely ignorant, she doesn't give a crap about male students and discriminates against them all the time. I wonder why she is still around.

Re: “There'll be no absolution for the man suing the Sisters at Aquinas College for reverse discrimination

Only a bunch of caustic idiotic catholics would think they'd be able to try and destroy someone's academic and professional career and get away with it. catholics are ignorant idiots! Relics of a time when people thought the world was flat. Remnants of an evil that once killed millions of innocent people for not believing what they believed..for not submitting to the will of catholicism, aka stupidity. They falsify documents, conflate events to muddy the waters, rape and molest children. Just disgusting people. They hide behind the relativistic nature that defines their body of ridiculous beliefs and silly philosophy, assert that 2 & 2 = 6, unless 5 is more convenient to try and stop the flow of knowledge and fact that 2 & 2 is 4. blahahhahaha...blah, relativism is king type nonsense. aquinas is a nothing school, poor white-trash running the show over there. They market themselves like they are a part of the Vatican, when in fact the Vatican does not recognize the Dominican branch of catholics. Dominicans were used during the Inquisition to do the Vatican’s dirty work and murder anyone and everyone they decided was a heretic. In modern society, Domincan’s no longer serve a purpose to the Vatican. But, if the murder of so-called heretics is ever put back in motion and a bid opens up there is no doubt the Dominicans, like those at aquinas, will be begging to for that contract. Another word about aquinas, being isolated is the least of their problems over there at aquinas. They have zero intelligence over there. These ruffians are the same wicked breed that existed during the inquisition, they just persecute secular people in a different way now. They couch there hatred for the world (non-catholics) the 'smart' people, and their stupidity in contrived smiles, false marketing, seemingly humble garb, and lies and more lies to bait young impressionable kids into becoming a student at aquinas, get those federal funds, and then kick them out of school. Ugly, Ugly, wicked people.

Re: “Middle Tennessee designer Jeff Garner fights the fashion of conspicuous consumption and waste — with fashions

Trust fund baby narcissist Jeff Garner whom lives as a fraud is currently on his second divorce. Again found guilty of verbal and physical abuse Jeff is nothing of what he personifies in the public eye. Women should not support this man for he is a predator of women found to be very abusive behind closed doors.

Re: “There'll be no absolution for the man suing the Sisters at Aquinas College for reverse discrimination

Lori Kelly is rumored to have been married to a doctor at St. Thomas Hospital, and the doctor was having fun, if you know what I mean, with a young really hot nurse at St. Thomas. I've heard Lori Kelly caught her husband with his new squeeze, and people have said Lori Kelly has hated men ever since. A hatred so strong, evidently, she now swings both ways. Even, some have said, Lori Kelly has made it known to female students she likes girls. Is she sleeping with them, or doing inappropriate stuff? I can't say for sure so I won't. who knows, but she could be. I've also heard that Lori Kelly especially hates big muscular men, because her husband was a big muscular handsome man like Blizzard. Sad she would team up with Peggy Daniel and Suzette Telli and others to attack Blizzard when he did nothing wrong, when being angry at her x-husband was probably her motivation.

I've personally worked with Aquinas nurse management people and I find them to be creepy, shady, and hostile. So I'm sure Blizzard was hating life at Aguinas surrounded by a lot of female lesbians who hate men. god, I can't imagine what Blizzard went through.

Re: “There'll be no absolution for the man suing the Sisters at Aquinas College for reverse discrimination

It seems like so many of Aquinas' nurses are just idiotic, feminist, bullies and white-trash. I love my partner, and I can't believe some of the things they believe. but, I've worked with two nurses from Aquinas who are actually really good, but they both don't like people to know they graduated from Aquinas. They both said they hated the experience, paid way too much for just a two-year degree, and worn people about the realities of being a student there. Basically, it's hell they say. And with most of the nurses being really sucky, I can't stand most of the clinical instructors from Aquinas. The clinical instructors should know what they are doing, but they don't. They are ignorant, unprofessional and abusive people. I witnessed a Clinical instructor violate hospital policy and tell a patient something she shouldn't have, and then tried to blame it on her nursing student when it later came up. Unbelievable! They should know what they are doing in the nursing environment, but they don't know squat. These people are scary, and I don't like working with them!

Re: “There'll be no absolution for the man suing the Sisters at Aquinas College for reverse discrimination

People are still talking about this case, at least here in Nashville. It's really funny, when male nurses are treated differently than females at my work, they drop the 'Blizzard-bomb' now. I get the feeling Blizzard is both feared and well respected in this community. Blizzard, you brought the storm and kicked some a**! I wish more people had your integrity, and balls. But your case is now helping some male nurses at my job. Crazy stuff going on. So, thanks!

Re: “There'll be no absolution for the man suing the Sisters at Aquinas College for reverse discrimination

I hear Aquinas needs more lawsuits brought against them. Despite Blizzard's rumored hands-down, expedient victory over these idiots, Aquinas College allegedly continues to abuse, harass, and flunk minority students, especially the male students, due to their prejudice against males, and males in nursing. The Catholics, especially this cloistered, cult-Dominican breed, apparently have no intention of eradicating or firing any of the key players in the alleged ongoing abuse of male/minority students at Aquinas, because they are all rumored to still be employed at the college. History demonstrates that a high percentage of Catholics become hostile, abusive, intolerant and even perverted when confronted by smart, intelligent people who know how the world of Catholicism really works. Catholics cover all their misdeeds up, and without fail continue hurting their victims, engaging in concerted campaigns to try and beat their victims into submission, especially males (molestation of boys) at every opportunity. I truly hope the talk about Blizzard around the medical community is true, and he and his attorneys, spanked Peggy Daniel and her feeble-minded sycophants Like Suzette Telli (so unattractive and intellectually challenged), and reduced them to the silly little lame-ass girls they really are.

Re: “The Street Where We Lived

Do you know when the "new" downtown Cain-Sloan store was built? I just saw a picture from 1956 and it looks like Cain-Sloan is on the same side of the street as Harvey's. But by the time I remember C-S was across the street. I appreciate your help.

Re: “Did an NHC nursing home let a serial molester run free for seven years?

This is one of the worse thingsI have ever read I believe . No one has a mind of their own. All should be brought to trial and he should and hopefully is in prison without parole. How is this going to change in nursing home if the public is not made aware of how these places staff 30 patients to one nurse and some even staff over 30 patients to one nurse and CNAs that are not good CNAs just warm bodies ask the LPNs and RNs how their day went and how did their CNAs take care of the patients and were they following nursing instructions or insubordinate and when the nurse reports a bad CNA then the nurse is the problem. Becuase the CNAs run these nursing homes Because they need more of them than nurses and they do run the most of them. CNAs are the majority and the majority rule. Nobody wants to listen to 1, w, or 3 nurses tell u that CNA did not turn these people every two hours or left them wet 4 hrs. The CNA will keep their job the nurse is the one that will lose their job

Re: “The Albies

My grandfather, father, and I used to have breakfast at The Flaming Steer in the 70's on Saturday mornings. I was just a kiddoe back then, but I can still remember their pancakes. They did something special to them that I haven't tasted since (and I've been looking). Perhaps 'cat' can tell us what was in them?

Re: “The File on Marcia Trimble

@EventTracker - The police will never say that Jeffery Womack is innocent whilst they think that they can continue to fool the public into thinking that their police are always to be trusted.

If any editor says that Jeffrey's totally innocent then it will completely kill-off all further intrigue which is impossible to foment without a likely suspect, which Jeffrey has always been, unfortunately for him. Whatever happens or doesn't happen to Jeffrey for the rest of his life will never have anything at all to do with justice, as he will always be a victim of prejudice. The damage is done and simply cannot be put right.

The only good thing[and it is good] that results from Jeffrey having been treated in such a callous manner that he was is that the public now know never to tell the police anything about anything, even the slightest thing that might seem quite innocuous, and never trust any of them until hell freezes over solid.

If anyone who knows what happened to Jeffrey Womack then chooses to tell the police anything at all after all this then they do so entirely at their own peril. It always pays to keep your trap shut tight lest the police try to set a trap to catch you out. The police will do everything they can to try to save face due to their having botched any investigation. If you want an investigation botched good and proper then give the investigation to the police and they will ensure that your wishes are met with precision. They are experts at botching investigations. That is their botch investigations like an expert.

Their track record is highly risible and has been for many years. Apart from the fact that the police have destroyed so many innocent lives, I always get a big kick every time the police get caught-out buried deeper within each and every botched investigation due entirely to their very own incompetence. Nobody helps them as they do it all by themselves...they're now expert at it. Only the police know too full well that practice makes perfect.
