Re: “After 40 years of reinventing R&B and rock 'n' roll, Los Lobos remain hungry

Well, Captain Beefheart and the Band are quite similar. Same sprung rhythms and uptight blues and so forth, Beefheart is a bit jazzier, maybe. I hear both influences in Lobos.

Re: “After 40 years of reinventing R&B and rock 'n' roll, Los Lobos remain hungry

Totally disagree about KIKO. It may be their best work. The album is a few songs too long but that does not make it "negligible." KIKO is far more avante garde than COLOSSAL HEAD. The band sounds unfocused on COLOSSAL HEAD which directly results in subpar songs and an inconsistent sound. And "The Lady and the Rose" is a below average folk song that has no place on TIN CAN TRUST, an otherwise great rock n roll record. Los Lobos have always reminded of The Band as they are that good and they encompass all types of American music. They have never reminded me of Captain Beefheart.

Re: “Kesha Accuses Producer Dr. Luke of Abuse

This is hard to understand- unless you've lived it.

The narratives, of course, are distinct but there is a commonality of experience, no matter how it manifests.

False accusations should not keep the truly victimized from coming forward. The barriers today are nowhere near what they used to be.

Re: “Jack White Keyboardist Isaiah 'Ikey' Owens Dead at 38 [Updated]

This is sad news today.

I only had the opportunity to see Ikey Owens in person, performing "live", once and that was at the Ryman Auditorium in May of 2012 in Jack White's band.

I was very impressed with this piano man and have been following his work with Jack white and Third Man Records through Jack White's web site and the TMR web site. I just checked JW's web site earlier today to view the photos taken at last night's concert in Mexico.

I am very sorry for his family's loss and for the loss to all the musicians that consider Ikey family and friends.

I'll light a candle in church for you Ikey...God speed your soul to Heaven.

Re: “The Black Belles' Olivia Jean to Release Jack White-Produced Debut Solo LP Oct. 14

To Pirooza and every other fake name you go under; Are you still whining about this?

Reasons that JW doing this to keep her quiet doesn't even make sense; A) It didn't work - assh*les like you keep spreading this rumour around, and B) Pretty sure that if she was involved in this "scandal", she wouldn't want to spread it around, so no reason to keep her quiet. Your idiot theory makes no sense.

By the way, I bought her album today, and it's fantastic.

Re: “The Black Belles' Olivia Jean to Release Jack White-Produced Debut Solo LP Oct. 14

Just read on another thread that this record deal and heavy promotion was given to Olivia Jean to keep her quiet about Jack's divorce and the cheating scandal. It is very disheartening to learn that she manipulated her situation with Jack to get herself a recording contract. That does not say a lot for a woman who is already viewed as most as untalented. I have to admit I was surprised when Third Man made the announcement that Jack produced an album for her. All or nearly all of the guys in the Buzzards have solo projects or play in other groups and the same with the girls in the Peacocks. All of these guys and girls are all far more talented than Olivia Jean. Even the two guys who help Jack run Third Man records are part of groups whose music is far better than Olivia Jean. Seems very unfair these really talented musicians were over looked and Olivia Jean got a record deal and such heavy promotion in order to keep her quiet. Manipulative people like her should not be rewarded.

Re: “Jack White to Play Bridgestone Arena Jan. 28

The Sterling Sisters would be a great choice to open for Jack. So would Pujol or Jeff The Brotherhood. It is very disheartening to learn that an album was produced and the heavy promotion for Olivia Jean was to keep her quiet about Jack's divorce and the cheating scandal. That does not say a lot for a woman who is already viewed as most as untalented. I have to admit I was surprised when Third Man made the announcement that Jack produced an album for her. All or nearly all of the guys in the Buzzards have solo projects or play in other groups and the same with the girls in the Peacocks. All or nearly all of those girls have solo careers or are part of groups and they are all far more talented than Olivia Jean. But Dennis is right fans see through all of this. She may have Jack by the balls but she certainly does not have the fans. Fans should just boo this her right off the stage.
