Re: “See Sturgill Simpson Rock 'In Bloom' and 'Call to Arms' on The Daily Show

No, no, no, no, no. Please don't ever do that again. This "interpretation" of "In Bloom" is an abomination and should be recognized as such. Adding your own new lyrics to a Kurt Cobain song? GTFO.

Re: “Nashville Reacts to Prince's Death

My first real music industry job in Nashville was as a publicist. Even then (back in the Stone Age) I didn't like exaggerating, hyping or using the more derogatory descriptions of artist promotion (that in some cases, could include the "artist" designation), realizing that true talent stands on its own. True talent should be and- among those with enough confidence in it- is enough.

Of course, back then country-music "artists" (and management) weren't in a position to demand anything more than the straight-ahead promotion that, among artists of integrity (and their organizations), still works to this day.

Sometime during the last few years it became de rigueur, upon the death of a country star, for publicists who didn't represent that entertainer to issue press releases, on behalf of and in the names of their roster of clients, extolling the virtues of the deceased. (Prior to that time, such quotes were found only in obituaries after reporters approached particular artists who had a legitimate connection the deceased.)

Newbie country music acts, usually too new to have even worked with the deceased (usually the same ones whose bios suggest being influenced by Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves, Bobby Bare or some other country star to that point they never heard of) join the chorus of those eulogizing a Merle Haggard, Sonny James, Kitty Wells, etc. via these publicity releases or otherwise (Publicist to the the network affiliates: "How would you like to add my client, Tex Future Somebody,'s reaction to your coverage of tributes to Tommy Overstreet?")

As if this (self)-exploitation of baby acts weren't enough, we have the newest phenomenon: a compulsion of members of the country-music industry to offer same-day coverage on the death of entertainers like Prince (who, were the tables reversed, with notable exceptions of those who had some discernible link to him, certainly wouldn't be eulogizing them).

I don't think anyone cares that I am a native Minnesotan reared 14 miles from Paisley Park.

Nor should they.

Re: “Indie-Rock Sex Panther Har Mar Superstar Hits The High Watt Tonight

After 36 combined hours of live music, it turns out that the absolute last thing I wanted to see was a noise band. Say what you will of his persona, Har Mar Superstar's music is fun.

Negative Nellie....not just me who doesn't like it.

I'm sure the artists love it when people talk over shows, fight, etc.

Re: “Red Kentucky Girl: Loretta Lynn's Trump Endorsement Is The (Bitter) Pill

Thank Frank V for putting this into perspective for me. I love Loretta and have for many years. I just have to remember her background and give her a pass on this.

Because of this video, my first love has found me after 35 years. I haven't seen him since I was 16 and am now 51. Should we meet?

Re: “Sturgill Simpson to Return to the Ryman for Two-Night Stand

Maybe the Friday crowd will actually stand up, applause and act like they want to be there this year, and maybe the Saturday crowd won't fight and talk over half the show. Maybe there's some middle ground in their somewhere.

Re: “Sturgill Simpson to Return to the Ryman for Two-Night Stand

I see Vegas has set the over/under on how long it will take the TicketBots to snatch up all tickets and jack up prices on the secondary market is set at 5 minutes for each show. I'll take the under.

Re: “Weekend Round-Up: Open Til Midnight Style

@Tobin: I don't personally like it very much, though I liked it more when it came out. I think it's a pretty standard "if you were a certain age when it was released, it means something to you" scenario.

That said, I just picked it because it's RSD weekend and I've already used High Fidelity.

I've never understood the Scene's obsession with that terrible, terrible movie.
