Re: “Wholly Chow Does Down-Home Right

I had lunch there with several friends. We all thought the food was excellent and reasonably priced. Portions were large. We plan to eat there again on a regular basis. If BB Cutie is your thing, you probably are not going to like any of the quality food that I like. Be SURE to have the banana pudding and the chocolate mocha brownie at Wholly Chow. They are awesome. So's the seafood gumbo, red beans and rice, ......

You can get most of those pastries (and more!) every day of the year at Baklava Bakery on Nolensville. Although to be fair there's less dancing.

Re: “Paula Deen Talks Sweetbreads, Butter and Why She and Dolly Should Totally Be Friends

I am a huge fan of Paula and I respect her and her work. She has worked so hard and has helped so many people along the way. I have seen her "live" and thought she rocked the house down. Never a boring moment. She is such an inspiration to many. My family and I love Paula Deen!

I'll read and comment on anything I like. FAN. I thought she was disingenuous throughout that whole debacle and I don't care to see or read about her. Buy her potholders, I don't care.

Re: “Paula Deen Talks Sweetbreads, Butter and Why She and Dolly Should Totally Be Friends

It simply amazes me sometimes how people always feel like they have to say something NEGATIVE to make themselves feel better. It's a very simple process... if you're not a fan of Paula's then you SHOULDN'T have been reading this interview, to begin with!
Just because someone has the ENERGY to pull themselves up off the floor after they've been shot down, doesn't give anyone who hasn't walked in her shoes the RIGHT to criticize her STRENGTH.

Re: “Gulch Beer Fest Kicks Off This Saturday

Let's start with the fact that nowhere on their website does it explain what your $50.00 (edit 53.74) goes towards~~~ And thinking further, does this mean that Division, Yazoo and Jackoffalope will be closed to walk ins? This is as sketchy as it gets: The organizers put up a shitty zero info website and lure you with a "sold out" vip status. 28 days since their last tweet. These cats are stuffing their pockets.

Re: “Gulch Beer Fest Kicks Off This Saturday

@Joshua S, can you explain why? Haven't been, so I wouldn't argue with your assessment, but I think of something is deemed a "terrible" event, it would be good for those buyers (and maybe organizers too) to know why you deem it as such.

Re: “Paula Deen Talks Sweetbreads, Butter and Why She and Dolly Should Totally Be Friends

PAULA DEEN IS ONE OF THE MOST GRACIOUS LADIES THAT I KNOW! EATING AT THE LADY AND SONS IN SAVANNAH IS SUCH A TREAT FOR MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS. EVERY MORSEL OF FOOD IS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS AND MOUTH WATERING GOOD! I HAVE ATTENDED MANY OF PAULA'S LIVE SHOWS AND THEY HAVE BEEN FABULOUS! VERY ENTERTAINING AND CROWD PLEASING. IT TAKES A LOT OF ENERGY AND STAMINA TO DO WHAT PAULA DOES AND SHE GETS STANDING OVATIONS FOR HER ENTERTAINING PERFORMANCES. THE NASHVILLE SHOW TONIGHT WILL BE OVER THE TOP! THOSE OF YOU THAT KNOW PAULA KNOW WHAT I AM SAYING! LOVE YOU "SISSY" BUBBLES

Re: “Paula Deen Talks Sweetbreads, Butter and Why She and Dolly Should Totally Be Friends

How in hell does a food professional mistake sweetbreads for cinnamon rolls? I know her gig is trailer food but c'mon, you're a grown woman who's been dining out and working events with actual chefs for years.
I keep wondering how she could have expected a breakfast pastry to be served as a small plate with truffle and chestnuts (or whatever) and then, when it arrived, to look at it and not think, "where's the frosting, y'all?"
Then I realize I'm spending too much time thinking about this creepy, lying bigot.
Screw her.

Yeah, I also ended up with promotional seat offers in my inbox. I won't be attending, but expect a thorough accounting of every detail from one of the Scene's fine food journalists.

Re: “Gulch Beer Fest Kicks Off This Saturday

The event website says nothing about how you get your beer and food. Is that part of the price or is the beer and food charged separate? Or, in other words, am I paying $50.00 (edit $53.74) to get in to buy beer and food?

Re: “Paula Deen Talks Sweetbreads, Butter and Why She and Dolly Should Totally Be Friends

Based on positive experiences at Alton Brown / Bobby Flay dog and pony shows, I made the mistake of attending a Paula Deen cooking show at TPAC. If I had not been trapped in the center orchestra seating I would have bailed after the first ten minutes. La Deen was too important to touch her own food demo- she had a drone doing the scut work.

Just received an email from the promoter offering free seats. Um, not at gunpoint.
