I look forward to her addition. Nashville has evolved greatly as a foodie destination and I welcome anything that isn't BBQ or another steak house. I do however, worry that Nashville has gone past a "tipping point" in it's ability to support these eateries.
Anne Landers, I agree that it's weird to include Mason's that isn't open yet, but Blvd., Rosebud and Rumors are all pretty major reboots of other places and Sardinia is new to town. They established November as their deadline for Best New Restaurant, so anything new after that is fair game, I guess.
And considering how small E Hur Wei is, I'd be shocked if it was part of a chain or the beginning of one. Could your source possible be thinking of Pei Wei, like I was when I first heard of it?
>>Like a lunchroom, there's a line for ordering and paying.<<
This alone would keep me away from a restaurant. I refuse to eat at a place where I have to fetch my own food. If I wanted that then I'd go to McDonalds (yech!).
>>will tarnish what is naturally nashville- which is still evolving<<
Uhmm, no. Nashville IS quite comfortable in its own skin as well as its niche, IMO. We might wave at a celeb or two but we by & large leave them alone (which they seem to appreciate). And THIS is what helps make Nashville unique, IMO.
>> it really ain't as cool as people looking for a scene to belong to think it is<<
True. This is akin to those whom would only go to clubs that restrict the entry to only the "beautiful people".
I've been to a few restaurants in the Gulch area & they're all overrated & overpriced, IMO. But, I guess they're "trendy".........
As for the "gastropub", I'd be curious about how well an Indian-based pub would go over in Nashville.
On a separate topic, who has an opinion on the best "new" restaurant thing Nashville Lifestyles is doing? Only one of the restaurants in their competition is truly new and some aren't even open yet.
The Chinese place in Bellevue is a chain or at least the beginning of one from what I was told.
meh. celebrity equals meh. every time over time. nashville is not at the top of anything and the mayberry mentality of "ooooooh, celebrity!!!!' will tarnish what is naturally nashville- which is still evolving. she sees a dollar sign due to an article she read in food and wine. we could just as easily be any other mid sized city that is having its moment and she would go there. nashville has nothing to do with it. it could just as easily be dallas or boise or portland or anywhere. gastropub equals moron lemming magnet. welcome to your crowd. end of story.
Props to SoulShine y'all. They're awesome.
Hey Dickie, you mad bro? I, personally, am excited to see a pub coming to town that is going to serve more than just wings and burgers and her "celebrity" will help to continue to keep Nashville at the top.
Yeah!!!! So glad, it's our favorite place. Add really good shrimp n' grits to the menu, the really good kind like in charleston or New Orleans. ( not the greasy stuff
Haven't been to Pub 5 yet, but it has been very high on my long list of things to do since it opened. I was really bummed to hear that the chef and his team had been let go because I had their food at a couple of events recently and it was great! (many others that were at the same events agreed)
Now I'm not quite as excited to try it out, especially if they're changing the menu :-(
I was at the Tuesday night dinner at Anthem, and if that food is any indication of what is to come at her new restaurant, I am beyond excited! The cookbook is incredible too- definitely one of the most interesting I've seen in a long time. (And the boozer in me loves that there is a cocktail recipe to go with every dish) Drool over some of the photos on my blog: http://www.eat-drink-smile.com/2013/04/fla…
Looking forward to this!!!
Thanks, Chris. I had the mushroom tofu hotpot at E Hur Wei. Lots of bok choy, very fresh. My husband had the mu shu pork. Definitely a cut above the other versions in town. I am hopeful.
ooooh! wow! a 'celebrity' chef (maybe the quotes should be around the word chef), a gastropub and a reality show?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!? jesus christ. just what we need is another chef with mirrors all over their kitchen. wtf is a gastropub anyway? last time i heard that term clinton was president. fucking stupid. can i get a foam that tastes like italian sausage and peppers there? is that what it is? seriously, what is a gastropub? i looked up the word on wiki and it pretty much just described any decent food establishment. what is the difference between a gastropub and a place that serves beer and good food? the food world has become a neon caricatured cartooned version of itself cheaply screen printed on a shit quality tshirt. when all is said and done every bit of food just turns into a turd. if joe the convicted rapist makes your sandwich or this woman makes your sandwich it all ends up at the sewage plant. food- it really ain't as cool as people looking for a scene to belong to think it is. just chewing and pooping. food tasted better when cooks were outcasts, alcoholics, assholes, drug enthusiasts, malcontents, fringe dwellers and parolees. celebrity chefs. what a joke.
This gives me the sads as I had hopes this was an El Pollo Loco imposter (yes, based solely on the name).......
I'm as big of a fan of Nolensville Road as they come but I am glad to finally see you call a place out. There are a lot of great stops on The Road but there are terrible ones as well.
Re: “The Road, Episode 30: El Pollon Crazy Grill [Eating Our Way Down Nolensville Pike]”
Oh man, El Pollo Loco was the jam.
