Haven't been to Pub 5 yet, but it has been very high on my long list of things to do since it opened. I was really bummed to hear that the chef and his team had been let go because I had their food at a couple of events recently and it was great! (many others that were at the same events agreed)
Now I'm not quite as excited to try it out, especially if they're changing the menu :-(
I was at the Tuesday night dinner at Anthem, and if that food is any indication of what is to come at her new restaurant, I am beyond excited! The cookbook is incredible too- definitely one of the most interesting I've seen in a long time. (And the boozer in me loves that there is a cocktail recipe to go with every dish) Drool over some of the photos on my blog: http://www.eat-drink-smile.com/2013/04/fla…
Looking forward to this!!!
Thanks, Chris. I had the mushroom tofu hotpot at E Hur Wei. Lots of bok choy, very fresh. My husband had the mu shu pork. Definitely a cut above the other versions in town. I am hopeful.
ooooh! wow! a 'celebrity' chef (maybe the quotes should be around the word chef), a gastropub and a reality show?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!? jesus christ. just what we need is another chef with mirrors all over their kitchen. wtf is a gastropub anyway? last time i heard that term clinton was president. fucking stupid. can i get a foam that tastes like italian sausage and peppers there? is that what it is? seriously, what is a gastropub? i looked up the word on wiki and it pretty much just described any decent food establishment. what is the difference between a gastropub and a place that serves beer and good food? the food world has become a neon caricatured cartooned version of itself cheaply screen printed on a shit quality tshirt. when all is said and done every bit of food just turns into a turd. if joe the convicted rapist makes your sandwich or this woman makes your sandwich it all ends up at the sewage plant. food- it really ain't as cool as people looking for a scene to belong to think it is. just chewing and pooping. food tasted better when cooks were outcasts, alcoholics, assholes, drug enthusiasts, malcontents, fringe dwellers and parolees. celebrity chefs. what a joke.
This gives me the sads as I had hopes this was an El Pollo Loco imposter (yes, based solely on the name).......
I'm as big of a fan of Nolensville Road as they come but I am glad to finally see you call a place out. There are a lot of great stops on The Road but there are terrible ones as well.
Let's hope this 'gastropub' will be a step up from {Pub}licity out here yonder. Months open and still no footing.
I love how your reviews are peppered with vulgarity, reminds me of back home in Jersey.
Do you know what restaurant is going in next to the station inn (gulch area)? Seems i've asked bites before and other food blogs and nobody knows. I thought it would be a restaurant since there are upblast kitchen fans on the roof that look pretty new.
Hi mike, here's my Slow and Low First Bite:http://www.nashvillescene.com/bites/archives/2013/03/29/another-new-cue-review-part-2-slow-and-low-bbq-bistro
And MCP, I visited E Hur Wei, but haven't written about it yet since the owner said they were still in pre-opening stage (but clearly open) until May 1. The menu looked a cut above most local Chinese and they seemed to be using very fresh ingredients. Let me know what you think.
I was also a big fan of Pub 5. I went three times in the first two weeks it was open. However, I hear from friends they have changed their menu along with the new chef and it hasn't been quite as great. I'm told the kale chips are gone, as well as the daily flatbread and daily burger, all of which I thought were standouts. I haven't been back to judge for myself, but I really want this place to do well, so I'm hoping reports I heard are untrue.
Ate at one of Michael Symon's B Spot Burgers in metro Cleveland this week. Pretty good ... report on the blog, to continue the previous burger discussion, forthcoming.
Okay, so we went back again last night and we tried the meat and three menu. It was great, I got the pork stew with tomatoes and green olives and it was fantastic, and the sides -- a garlic covered yuca, black beans and rice and tostones -- were out of control. My wife loved her chicken soup, her plaintains and her beans. It hits all the comfort-food buttons that a meat and three should. It's the boogaloo joint of soul food spots.
Oh yeah, and they're open til 8 pm, Thrus.-Sat. now.
Anyone been to the new Chinese "bistro" E Hur Wei next door to Publicity in Bellevue?
This place couldn't hang with Nuvo though. They could maybe swing it in Tullahoma.
Maybe this place just needs to relocate to Charlotte Avenue, where Cinco de Mayo and Las Palmas both have successful operations that are just steps apart.
Oh, I listened, Ben. But I take issue with your point.
I will accept that it's more expensive than you're willing to pay. That has nothing to do with VALUE. You can't judge the value of something you haven't tried.
That's essentially saying, "I don't know what it is, but I know it's not worth it."
Re: “Blue Moon Rises Again on the Cumberland”
Yeah!!!! So glad, it's our favorite place. Add really good shrimp n' grits to the menu, the really good kind like in charleston or New Orleans. ( not the greasy stuff
