Hi there, just wanted to tell you about our restaurant. We opened over a year ago with a juice and smoothie bar focusing on bases with alkaline water, coconut water, almond milk and raw/vegan add in's from health force and other healthy (seriously healthy) options. We expanded into a cafe early this year. We now offer 100% vegan, and mostly gluten free appetizers, soups, sandwiches, wraps and more! Please check us out. What sort of training does one require to be called a "holistic chef?" Serious question. Also, is it possible to reheat these meals in the oven or are they microwave only in their packaging? Nuking precooked fish doesn't seem ideal.

When I have a desk (not currently) I usually have a stash of higher-protein breakfast bars, usually Nature Valley but sometimes Kashi. That's breakfast with a cafe au lait / latte, and are handy for most other needs. Also usually dried fruit. If there's a fridge, individual Fage yogurt or Breakstone cottage cheese.

Until someone finds and photographs Edley's smoker, Nashville has not arrived as a BBQ destination. And puff pieces like this are getting out of hand, only further encouraging Scene readers who are evidently are more swayed by reclaimed wood and mason jars than pits and smoke rings.

Stopped by once and ordered 2 entrees; forgot what they were and for a reason; they were forgettable. Expensive and tasteless. I predict a short tenure.

When I bring food to the office, it is a grocery sack full. Veggies from my CSA, maybe yogurt and/or local hard boiled egg, 2 reheatable containers of leftover dinner food, and fruit. I usually have more than enough for a 9-10 hr wok day. But, if I do the 3 pm snack walk to vending, it is Cheetos. 2 very small bags of Cheetos. That is why I carry Kennedy 1/2 dollars and $2 bills, and these money do not fit in vending machines.

Chris, thanks for the info; in fact you made me go to Bolton's for the first time ("hot", of course; magnificent!). I was actually, though, wondering what became of the _people_ who ran Luna and their plans to relocate. Their website is still up, and says (c) 2014, so they've updated it since they faded from Franklin Pike, and I _really_ miss their food. [re: Labor of Love, that _sucks_!, and where is now the best PCS in town? (BTW, Kebab Gyro's version, made with a frozen beef portion, isn't bad, with a bit of middle-eastern cinnamony flavor, and is cheep.)]

John, yes, that is the Jam's "Breakfast Sandwich", wonderfully-scrambled eggs, pesto, avocado, cheese, on Provence rosemary olive oil bread ... as Carly said, dream-worthy. Since discovering it I've only once detoured (into the breakfast tacos, almost as good, a bit smaller and cheaper). Enjoy the chix salad. Also, cute kitty.

No offense to Ms. Fox, whose writing I do respect, but there are a fair number of single people and/or childless couples in the world. This, and quite a few of her reviews in the past couple years have really harped/hinged on whether the respective restaurant/business "works" for kids/families. Frankly, the nice thing about Nashville's growth in recent years is that there are many more diverse options, and especially places that are geared only for adults/singles.

Peanut butter pretzels. And the occasional Gold Bar. I still have some Kashi peanut butter granola bars, but it's self-torture to eat those very often so I save those for when there is absolutely nothing else around and no way to get downstairs to the cafe.

I always keep a bag of Aldi almonds with me when traveling or at the home office. You can stave off a lot of bad food ideas by eating a handful of those - especially at the hotel - and then have the time to make a more sensible choice.

LOVE THIS. One teeny question: can the mimosa bar be scaled in price for 1 glass if you're the only in a group imbibing?

Good luck with the well-mannered caveat. I mean that - Love the idea, skeptical on the outcome. In my experience, the parents with the children who create the issues don't seem to think they're not following the rules, rather, the rest of the world is simply not understanding their situation. (Which is pretty ironic, given the situation is, their children are not YET well-mannered. And everyone knows it.)

And I have one piece of unsolicited advice for all parents in that boat, based on my experience with two very loving parents who felt it their responsibility to raise children to become adults: practice that good behavior with special meals at home! Eating out should be a fun reward, not a chore or a drag or a countdown to disaster. Reinforcement works! Children learn what they see and what they get to practice.

i'm with moldy. if there is food in my desk, imma eat it. if i bring my lunch, it's a second breakfast at 9:30. however, i do enjoy picking up a pastry or muffin and picking at it throughout the morning. if anything, i keep a good bar of bittersweet chocolate for afternoon sweet tooth emergencies...but i have to hide it from myself.

Nola granola, a variety tin of GypsyTeas, Crystal hot sauce since it makes everything better, Lara Bars and Welch's fruit snacks (because I'm really a 40 year old toddler)

Heinz Ketchup, soy sauce and mustard packets. Keeping food within reach is just another vector in the overeating paradigm. Christ, I can't even brown bag it. I'll scarf down my breakfast and lunch before 0900.

Most of the time, trail mix with a generous sprinkling of extra m&ms is my favorite at work snack. Sometimes hummus and carrots are in the rotation and then there are the days an entire box of CheeseIts are devoured.

My healthier options: I stockpile the unsalted whole cashews from the store brand at CVS. Also, "Hint of Salt" Triscuits and the Bare version on Barney almond butter, as in Jack's picture above. And dried fruit, like maybe dates.

Turnip Truck recently started carrying Bella Nashville Bakery loaves, and I'm crazy for noshing on the whole-wheat desem, but it's not really a desk drawer item.

My most indulgent item: a box of Bumble Bees from Colt Chocolates. They're like Turtles only local and much tastier.

I still can't believe that after all the studies and scientific evidence, nutritionists are still loudly proclaiming that low fat is the way to go.
