Re: “First Bite: The New Family Wash/Garage Coffee on Main Street

@JohntheRevelator I know it's bad, but I'm all in for any pun that tastes that good.

Re: “Sam's Sports Grill Opening Soon in Westgate, But Probably Won't Reopen in Hillsboro Village

It is interesting that the people who can't keep businesses afloat are the ones complaining about new development. The owner of a now defunct sports bar saying disparaging things about the competition next door that's actually open? Shocking…. Meanwhile the West Meade Sams location has been a half-built eyesore for a year, while Zoe's next door was up and running without issue.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought the truffle fries flavor tasted like sour cream & onion. An oilier version of it, at that.

Re: “Ahead of Wine in Grocery Stores Is Food in Wine Stores — Starting Tomorrow

Organic groceries can be affordable, which means that they were processed using methods that are environmentally sound. These products are also free of artificial
chemicals and genetically modified organisms. With more people turning to organic food, you may find yourself wanting to try it out the next time you get grocery
delivery.

And the developers almost always win because they own city hall and sometimes become the mayor.

Nashville is growing too damned fast. 1500 new bodies every week - 76,000 in one year. Davidson County will double in population in about 8 years. Doesn't look good for nostalgia.

The Search for General Tso on Netflix was entertaining. Related: southeast Nashville restaurant rec: Corner Asian Cafe on Nolensville/Concord Road.

The developers will always win if there's a nickel to be made.

Re: “Weekly Open Thread: Where Do You Go for Cheap Eats?

Korea House's entrees are $12 and big enough to share. Add a bottle of shochu/soju for about $6 if you're feeling flush.

Another one falls to the wrecking ball. Why? We have Megan Barry saying she wants neighborhoods to have a say in their future and David Fox saying we need to put the brakes on all of this development. I doubt either one will change a damn thing.

Damn Hudson, if you're not fond of the sounds of a "sports contest", why go to a "restaurant" that is sports themed? I'm sure you can listen to your non-top 40 hits at any one of a number of hipster joints around town. If you're not fond of Sam's theme, there is an easy remedy-Don't Go!

Re: “Sam's Sports Grill Opening Soon in Westgate, But Probably Won't Reopen in Hillsboro Village

I came from Florida and fell in love with Sam's and their employees, as well as the village. Very cool vibe. Saddened that it is gone now. Will have to rethink where to watch my football. I am not a resident there but if I was then my voice would be heard if the plans are for more of the same of what went up next door.

I would like to add No Reservations, 100 Foot Journey, and Ratatouille. :) Good list, thanks!

Re: “First Bite: Avo

@biscuitlover the biscuits are, indeed made with butter. They are vegetarian, but not vegan.

Re: “Weekly Open Thread: Where Do You Go for Cheap Eats?

Seconded Kien Giang on Charlotte. Banh mi + pho = meal for two under $10. Skip the chips and dip at Local Taco (spicy shrimp and buffalo chicken) and come in around $5/person. Or splurge and get three tacos. Five Points Pizza weekday lunch special is also a good value ($8 for two basil and prosciutto slices, plus a drink).

Re: “Sam's Sports Grill Opening Soon in Westgate, But Probably Won't Reopen in Hillsboro Village

The death of the original Hillsboro Village buildings in favor of new bland development is the death knell for HV being interesting or charming, as is happening in so many neighborhoods, especially around Vanderbilt. Developers are killing Nashville. Thanks, guys.

Re: “First Bite: Avo

Hold on. The biscuits not made with lard are still made with butter right? Don't say crisco!
