Signed up! The menu is incredible, and I'm exited to see Casa Azafran.
yes mr. pink. or many seem to be hard on the outside and not fully cooked on the inside. other wings seem to be all sauce.
have you had the burger or fries. that looked really good!
This mom has purchased her tickets and will be one of the first people there stuffing myself silly!
Ghot Wingz has fine wings. I've had the parmesan wings — salty but very good. I could use some decent wings after a close encounter with my kids' frozen supermarket "wyngz" (fine print reads: no wing meat).
Link fixed.
this is not about a milkshake but......this is the open thread so
i went to Ghot Wingz off gallatin road. ive heard a lot of things about this place - all good. well i can add to that. they have a pretty big menu. you go in and you can order your wings the way you want them. you can have naked or breaded and there are many sauces. they also have whiting and catfish and other treats. prices are very fair. i felt that i was served a huge amount of food for what i paid and it was piping hot and exactly as i ordered it.
i had the honey bourbon wings and a piece of catfish. omg i was so impressed. they cook everything to order. they seem to ladle the sauce onto the wings after they cook them which actually really tastes great after it sits for a minute. i really dont know that ive had wings presented this way but it really works well. instead if the wings coming out already murdered in the breading and sauce....the sauce sits atop the wings and an addition. the sauce was perfect and the wings tender and juicy. the huge piece of catfish perfectly fried. flakey and fresh. the plate presented with a roll and celery to go. they open the to go box for you to check your food which i always like and feel is a very polite thing to do.
there are tables there and even pool tables and game machines if you want to hang out.
while i was waiting i saw some really tempting fries and a huge juicy burger go by me. it seems that its a hang out for the college there and there is also a nice community feel to the place. i also noticed that they have orange soda or orange cold drinks - if you will. orange drink goes very well with wings or catfish!
they have wings on special on wednesday and ill be back for sure!
the service was fast and friendly. i really liked the place. it seemed to be "owning itself' if you know what i mean. i hope they continue to focus on what they are doing well .
This sounds awesome! And did you see the Cinnamon & Coconut Dusted Fried Plantains too? We will be there!
CVF, regarding Gifford's, that's a mighty bold claim. So it's made locally, right? A little googling suggests it's available at the Farmer's Market, huh? I need to check it out.
The 'Hatcher Family Dairy ' link in the article does not work.
Thank goodness, I've been dying for a great burger.
Sorry about the mix-up, Advice. I checked my original email from mid April and it said 6:30. I would invite you to join Hoyt's mailing list, but only if you have unlimited bandwidth. Some people don't like the volume of emails, but I find them useful. Unfortunately, occasionally a date or time change falls through the cracks. Again, my apologies.
I was sad to show up for Hoyt's 360 Bistro tasting last night at 6:30 (based on this post) only to discover that it actually started at 6pm : (
So glad to welcome them to the 'hood. Missed their other place.
For NOLA eats try Luke (fantastic brasserie by John Besh), Cochon (duh), Babylon Cafe (great brunch), Felix's Oyster Bar (a staple), Pepperoni Cafe (a charming dive), and Freret St. Po'boys and Donuts (best po'boy I had).
I work around the corner and was lukewarm about this place but I have to give them props, the food is awesome!
@Ryan - The prix fixe lunch at Restaurant August is not to be missed. A serious bargain ($20.01 for 3 courses) and truly exceptional food. We used the prix fixe as a starting point and then added on another course or two, but it is by no means necessary. The space, vibe, service and food were all just lovely!
@Ryan, I'm sure you'll get no shortage of recs from this board regarding NOLA eats, so I'll get in early: K-Paul was one of the best dining experiences of my life. The only thing that was ordinary was the dining room itself. The food was great - everything we tried was fantastic. Great service. And I thought the value was incredible - pretty reasonably priced place. I spent far more at other places (like Le Foret) and wasn't nearly as satisfied. And Royal House is a great place for lunch - I rec a bloody mary and oysters. And get a sazerac at the Sazerac Bar inside the Roosevelt Hotel.
As a side note, I found service in nola to be very hit or miss - some places like K Paul knocked it out the park and others were downright horrible.
To not totally hijack this thread, I'll say that Chappy's is underwhelming. I've eaten there 3-4 times and never been blown away. Enough with the butter already.
I ate at Chappy's once years ago. I thought it was completely unremarkable. I'm going to NOLA for the first time in a couple of weeks, other than Mother's, any recommendations for restaurants?
You know who makes a great, simple, hand-sized cheeseburger? SYLVAN PARK in GREEN HILLS. Hot, crispy fries, too. Believe it. As fresh as can be.
Re: “Beer + Opera = Flash Mob? Of Course”
What a great idea/awesome piece of PR!
