Re: “Weekly Open Thread: What's the Best Free Food You Ever Scored?

I'm not certain that it was absolutely the best I ever had, but my favorite such memory is of the spread put out at the John Egerton Memorial held at the Nashville Public Library. It just felt right to celebrate his life that way...

Re: “Weekly Open Thread: What's the Best Free Food You Ever Scored?

A few years ago I assisted my wedding photographer sister on a shoot in NYC. The groom was a former colleague of hers. The food was catered by Daniel Boulud and when dinner was served the groom showed us to a private room where plates of the expertly prepared food were waiting for us. Pan seared duck breast, roasted veg tossed in a vinaigrette that still haunts me, boulangere potatoes and chocolate souffle.

The groom, like my sister, had suffered through some pretty terrible vendor meals over years of shooting weddings and he wanted to make sure all the vendors at his wedding got to eat well. Pretty cool move.

Once I got a free dinner because I was dining with a "food writer."

Re: “Embers Ski Lodge Introduces Mule Mondays and 10 Buck Lunches

They are going to need more than cheap well drinks and a lunch special to survive... Too many other options in our neighborhood that are really good.
